I had heard from friends that Taste of China offers Fujian-style home cooking that suits Fujian tastes, so we decided to give it a try for my mom’s birthday on Sunday.
We started with the Fuqi Feipian, which was on the salty side but otherwise pretty standard. The Seafood Shark Fin Soup was surprisingly bland, as if no salt had been added. We had to add red vinegar just to bring out some flavor, and it could have used more white pepper and seasoning overall.
Next was the stir-fried squid with vegetables (I forgot the exact name). It included scallions, taro strips, and red peppers, but the taste was fairly average. The sweet and sour pork (Lychee Pork) was close to the Fujian-style flavor I’m familiar with, though the sauce was a bit light and not as tangy or sweet as expected.
We also ordered the seafood fried rice noodles, which were very mild in flavor and lacked wok hei. It felt under-seasoned, almost like the seasoning was forgotten again.
One standout dish was the red fermented rice pork intestines with snow peas, a classic Fujian specialty. The red fermented rice flavor really came through, and this dish was definitely worth supporting.
The crispy roast duck was another highlight—crispy skin, juicy meat, and served with steamed pancakes, shredded cucumber, scallions, and sweet bean sauce. Very satisfying in every bite.
The restaurant also offered complimentary orange slices at the end, which was a nice touch. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable, and overall it was a fairly filling meal. If you enjoy Fujian-style cuisine, it’s worth giving this place a try.

I heard about this restaurant for a long time but only got to try it today. It is actually super good. We ordered both the spicy and no spicy dishes, and they are all delicious. The spicy fish and frog is awesome, so is the lamb dikon soup. The pork in pickled vegetables (MeiCaiKouRou) is well prepared that the pork doesn’t taste greasy. Everyone enjoyed the lunch today!

My first time here with the family. Heard do many good things about the restaurant. Overall, the good was good. Service was a little slow, maybe because it’s family owed or something. It took a very long time for us to get some more tea. But it’s a small restaurant, cozy. I like the walnut shrimp dish. Peking duck was also delicious. I will be back to try the rest of the menu

Very good Chinese food! Large portions. Reasonable prices. This type of restaurant is meant more for larger parties than smaller ones.

If you are looking for a restaurant that serves authentic chinese food in Duluth, you should definitely try Taste of China! I highly recommend the fried pork Fuzhou Style 荔枝肉! Wonderfully crispy, crunchy and savory! If you would like to try a dish that is sweet, sour and fried, this is definitely a must! Another dish that tastes really good is the crab with sweet sticky rice but it’s a bit on the pricier side. The other foods are good too!

I wish this was scripted.

Ordered food from here because it tastes alright but just very expensive. First they messed up my order, making the sea cucumber tofu pot instead of seafood tofu pot (which is much more expensive), but we let it slide so I took it home anyways.

Then during dinner when eating that dish, we gave some veggies to kids and there was a metal stick in the broccoli. A METAL STICK.

So we called back, told them what happened, and the first thing they said was it is normal. Then proceeded to be ignorant and when we addressed our concern and request for a solution they said there is no solution deal with it. We said that we will report to the health office and they responded with “OKAY GO AHEAD, GO REPORT US”.

Awful. If you care about your health, your family’s health, and the health of your kids, do NOT go here.

Food is authentic and always hits the spot—you really need to try the Mongolian beef, and the crab is excellent too. The chef is very friendly and usually comes out to greet you, which adds a nice personal touch. Service can be mixed at times, but one thing I appreciate is that they actually have more bigger tables than small ones, so it’s great for groups or family meals. Overall, definitely worth a visit for the food and the welcoming atmosphere!

Just saw other people review and I want to add here I tried to not think that what it is but it seems this place is RACIST, my husband is American he walked in first with our kids, and my mom and I go in after. My husband feel we not get service because we are not Chinese enough for them. I tried to not think that way but now I am.

First time dining in and we are not impressed with the service and attitude. I am Chinese we go eat out to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I found this restaurant on the search so decided to give it a try.
When arrived there, a couple of tables just left so they tried to clean the tables, it small restaurant. We wait by the door until one girl sits us down at the table right by the door. We got the menu, looked through it, and waited for someone to come so we could order drinks and food. We had been waiting for a while they seemed busy cleaning the other table about 20 minutes later, we still waiting, and the other two parties came in. They didn’t make reservations like us. They have a menu and plates. Then 5 minutes later, the server lady go take their orders.

Meanwhile, we still have not be able to order anything they totally ignored us. I have to call the guy that cleaning the table near by and let him know we been here for 30 minutes already and she has not come to get our order and just take other people first.

So he call her….but this what she said “oh are you ready to order?” I told her yes and we been waiting and no one come to take orders. She said “oh I don’t know, I go whomever call me first”

I said ” lhow you not know you saw us sit here before they come, you guys the one sit us on this table”

Then she take our orders….I thought if the food was good I would let it go.

The food is good, everything we ordered is good….. But ….when the first dish comes which is the Peking duck. And this is what she said ” Here someone ordered it but I give you first okay” and repeated it two times with attitude.

I have been I don’t need that attitude and that is not how it is supposed to be if they learn how to manage the restaurant and take care of the customers by ordering who seats first, these issues will not happen from the beginning.

If it is in different situations that other parties come later but are ready to order, that I understand.

But in this situation, we have been waiting to order before they came and NO ONE came to take orders.

4.5 out of 5: When you start with a large menu selection, it’s hard to choose. But, overall experience was very good. We enjoyed the hot and sour soup, Kung pao shrimp (KPS) and braised chicken. And as they say, 2 out of 3 ain’t too shabby. The braised chicken, though flavorful in its sauce, is otherwise bland and too bready. I like to taste the chicken right away and not hunt for its presence or flavor. KPS and the soup were excellent…nice flavors and especially if you like heat (KPS). Bonus was the rice, exceptional fresh and fluffy…good taste and texture. I would say, you will likely pick a winner on most menu items, as the overall quality of food is superior too many other Chinese restaurants.

I made a reservation a week in advance and even pre-ordered our dishes. But when we arrived on time, the table wasn’t actually ready and looked like it was just arranged last minute. On top of that, the dishes we had ordered ahead of time were no longer available.
It was really disappointing because we planned everything in advance to avoid exactly this kind of situation. I hope the restaurant can improve how they handle reservations and pre-orders.
