Mae’s offers yummy soul food in a cozy location in Northport. It’s very out of the way for us, so I’m not sure if we’ll return, but we enjoyed our visit.

Mae’s is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone. On a Sunday, we watched as numerous folks walked in and greeted each other with smiles and warm hugs. The lady at the register was welcoming and sweet.

Takeout is available and specials are run daily.

We had fried pork chops, chicken tenders, fried okra, yams, Mac and cheese, and French fries. The sweet tea I drank was absolutely perfect!

Boyfriend really liked his fried pork chops. I enjoyed my tenders, though they could have been a little meatier and I would have appreciated some ranch to dip them in. The fried okra was quite tasty – we really liked the extra crispy batter on them. French fries were just alright, but we weren’t expecting much there. Mac and cheese was a little too soft and lacked a punch but it was also alright. I liked the yams very much, as they were not too sweet or mushy.

Mae’s is worth a try at least once if you find yourself in Northport.

Mae’s should be a staple for anyone wanting a little taste of home. This little restaurant knows that southern food brings comfort like nothing else on earth, and the first bite of the food at Mae’s takes you back to your grandmother’s kitchen. The food is perfectly seasoned ( and yes, that’s a ham hock in the collards. ). The staff was attentive and friendly. Mae’s is a relaxing, down home experience.

Very tasty food, a little small place and unfortunately we were late and they run out of their famous wings. We will be back for sure.

The food is very good. It’s family owned. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the Cashier is young(not a problem) but for some reason she wasn’t very friendly.

The food was delicious! It was our first time eating here and I promise you we will be back. Even the cake was very good. I will give 10 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mae’s Southern Cafe has the best soul food ever!!!!! And the prices are very reasonable. I tried the chicken and dressing with two sides & babyyyyy it was the bomb. Idk who in the kitchen but they are doing a wonderful job. keep up the good work!!!!!!!

If I could give this place more than 5 *’s I would. First time going was yesterday, and I’m hooked. Of course yesterday there was a huge crowed, but even with that, the staff was still nice and patient. They caught your name and greeted you by name, The FOOD!!! OH MY GOODNESS it was amazing, I didn’t have to add salt or pepper. I had the hamburger steak and it was amazing. My kids had the fish and they let me taste it…I wanted to take their plate…OMG!!! I’m really funny about my fish because at restaurants they either don’t season it correctly or don’t fry it hard enough…but their fish was amazing… definitely going back!!!! Amazing way to honor Ms.Mae!!

You’ll miss it if you’re not familiar with the area, as it’s kinda tucked away in plain sight with a tiny sign. As for the food all my co-workers agreed it was awesome. Personally I couldn’t make up my mind so I decided to order something for now and later. I chose the burger(which appeared to be a handmade patty seasoned to perfection), the pull pork fries, and a vegetable plate(true baked mac and cheese with a good cheese blend). The only true way to describe the food is that the taste, texture, and presentation all give the feel of a home cooked meal. So if you’re tired of the overwhelming commercialism of the Tuscaloosa food scene, give this place a try.
