Ate here around noon on a Monday, not too busy. Waitress was nice and service was decent. Only about 2 waitresses to the whole restaurant so they were certainly busy, but always checked on us. I was attracted by the menu which was different from most other breakfast places. The food was very hit or miss. Banana pancake latter was yummy, ask for less ice. The Eggy Sandwich, phenomenal! Tasted great and the self proclaimed creamy cheesy eggs was just that, not overcooked but silky and yummy! I asked for a side of aioli to add to the sandwich and it really upgraded it. The hash browns that came with however, were very plain. I’m not the type to add salt to any food at restaurants but I did. I expected a bit more flavor coming from a southern style place. The Graceland French toast (special menu item) was also delicious! French toast was fluffy and the flavors went very well together. Now for the gumbo-laya, I wouldn’t order it again. Nothing about it was outstanding and it came with far too much rice. My boyfriend was most excited for this one and I thought it to be a good litmus test to see how well the “Southern” part of Southern kitchen would be done, and truth is it was just alright. But don’t write this place off, there’s a ton of other menu items I would love to try.

Delicious food, awesome service, phenomenal atmosphere (I enjoy country music so some light hearted soft country music in the background was awesome). Definitely try the bo-nuts and their omelette with the Cajun cream sauce was excellent! The wife and I enjoyed the mimosa flight as well, a bit heavy handed but that’s usually the preferred problem over the alternative. Will be back soon!

Ordered through uber eats:
I ordered the vegan oatmeal pancakes and was met with lots of disappointment. Many breakfast places will state they have “vegan” options, but their vegan options always feel like an afterthought on the menu.
The pancake was so insanely large and thick that it wasn’t even cooked all the way through. We had to cut the pancake in half and cook the rest on a pan ourselves. The taste was also really bad :/
It tasted like flour or starch and salty? There was no hint of sweetness at all.
I appreciate businesses trying to add vegan options, but at least try to make it edible- and make sure that it’s something anyone regardless of diet would actually enjoy.
Otherwise why put it on the menu.
It’s very easy to make vegan meals that taste good!
Hope to see better options in the future.

Wow! Is all I can say! What a positive experience this was! Food and service were amazing and the place is s so quaint! Definitely worth the 30 minute drive from Bloomingdale! For drinks we tried frozen: strawberry/ banana smoothie, caramel Frappuccino and I tried the hot banana pancake latte which was superb! I would love to go on the daily just for the coffee! Our food was some of the best breakfast we’ve ever had and they didn’t skimp on the portions! We tried: Bisquits and gravy-amazing: bisquits tasted homemade and gravy was perfect not too Spicey and just the right ratio of sausage and gravy. Nutella crepes which received raving reviews, and the “The Bisquit” omelette wow, like nothing else. Pancakes were amazing served with whipped butter and warm syrup. This place needs to be on Chicagos best.

First time visiting Southern Kitchen and I must stay I was pleasantly surprised. Let me start with the menu, quite unique to bring a southern taste to the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I was mesmerized by the menu not being familiar with southern cuisine. The waitress was kind enough to suggest a few recommendations. The food presentation and taste was amazing. Additionally, the portions are second to none. What a Wonderful breakfast experience, we will definitely be back….do not miss this Southern gem in the burbs.
