Birria Ramen was not our fave. The torta was savory and hearty. Yucateca was also savory; the tortillas were lovely. I didn’t take a picture of the chicken tamale, but it was probably my favorite item. Guacamole is GREAT and addictive. Don’t miss out on the Mexican rice and charro beans. Be prepared to be full. We’ll definitely be back. Love the people who work here. They are so gracious and attentive.
This El Molino just a restaurant and has bar area and dessert freezer area (ice cream and Mexican popsicle)
The service was prompt and good came out warm and nice.
I had ramen birria and my husband had their taco.
The ramen was okay, I enjoyed taco birria and thought the ramen birria will be great but after I ate it I am not sure birria taco is a good idea. The meat in the ramen was good portion and the noodle was a good consistency (not soggy).
The tacos were good and taco at El Molino is always a good food option!
We ordered a variety of dishes including tacos, a tamale, chips and guacamole, and esquites. The tacos were very greasy and messy to eat with all the grease dripping down our hands and arms. The chicken & pork tamale was dry and lacked a nice flavor or texture. The quacamole was great, but the chips were also a bit greasy and tasted a bit overcooked. Finally, the esquites was like mexican street corn with mayo, cheese, and chili powder served in a cup which was inedible. We took a few bites and left the rest – it was like eating mayonaise out of a jar with a few kernels of corn mixed in, a far cry from a similar dish served at Taco Boy, of all places.
Unfortunately, we came here to experience authentic Mexican cuisine, but the food was so greasy we felt sick after dining. It was also kind of off-putting that we had to go home and get cash in order to pay for the privilege. In addition to all of that, our server couldn’t understand our order, and we had to point out the food and drinks we wanted to her instead of speaking with her.
Overall, I can see the casual appeal of the food, however it may have been better as a grocery store taqueria instead of a sit-down dining experience. It seems like there has been no emphasis on the service provided and the food is fast and greasy, basically the equivalent of ordering from a food truck and sitting on a bench to eat it.
This gem of a human handed me the most gorgeous, fresh, spicy marg—bright, beautiful, and built with actual intention. She’s attentive in a way you feel. Every time I walk in, she makes sure I’m taken care of like I’m one of her own.
She’s pushed me out of my usual lane and into new flavors, new drinks—new everything—and I’ve never once been disappointed. Not even close.
If you want someone who genuinely loves what she does and makes you feel it in every sip and bite, go sit with Monse at the bar. She’s fantastic.
As a local small-business owner, I value this kind of service and care more than anything. As long as she’s here, trust that Harlow will be showing up weekly for meetings just to see our girl.
Thank you, El Molino, for having such an incredible staff. You’ve got a real one in Monse.
I could eat a plate of 5-6 of their delicious street style tacos and be just as satisfied as any meal downtown. And probably wash it down with a mess of beer and be out for less than $40.
If you want Mexican in Charleston, must go.
When we finally visited, it all made sense as soon as we walked in. They have a DJ, the ambiance is amazing and the food smelled great! We tried a bunch of tacos (the steak is the best imho), horchata, chips and queso.
The service is excellent! The bathrooms are clean (there are 2 inside). There is ample parking outside. They also offer a bunch of desserts, which i wish we tried but we were already so full! This place is worth the hype.
