This place looks like a dive but the grub is good. Hubby and family have dined here before and a few of them rave about the Mac & cheese. Perhaps I’ll try that next time.
It was bit late (around 8 pm) when hubby and I went. There was a line but they got it going pretty quickly. We were sat in about 10
minutes. Our server was accommodating and friendly. Hubby ordered one of the beers on tap while I requested for some cold water.
I opted for fish and chips while hubby ordered their chicken sandwich. His came with the house chips while mine came with fries. His was supposed to have been swapped with fries. His was not quite right but he still thought it was good and didn’t bother to get it replaced.
As for my fish and chips, some of my fries were too overdone to my liking. I thought the food was decent but could have been better.
The vibe was good, music reminded me of my former band’s repertoire in the early 2000s. Their decor is Big Lebowski-inspired. They are popular with locals who just want to hang. Prices were reasonable for Portland standards. Will give them another try.

First time here and the handsome bartender PD greeted me and my guy as though we were regulars- high fives, smiles, a superb recommendation for hangs afterwards… I don’t know who’s responsible for hiring here, but clearly they have an eye for guys that look good in button downs and know how to shake ‘em up. 10/10 would recommend coming here when PD is working so that you can experience his customer service prowess for yourself!

The atmosphere, staff, and food all complement each other perfectly! I recommend the breakfast fried rice and the fish and chips! Both are outstanding! The breading on the fish and chips is crispy while the fish is exquisite on the inside! Definitely recommend adding one or two extra over easy eggs to the top of the breakfast fried rice as the yolk provides a nice sauce before the fried rice! I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu! Definitely a must visit if coming to Portland, Maine!

Been going here since they opened. A loud and lively dive bar atmosphere with great food, and a well thought out drink list that includes a slew of cocktails, quality beers and wines, and a nice selection of aperitifs. The bartenders are among the best in town, the service is friendly and efficient, and the kitchen is consistently the best late night option in town. Yes, it can be swamped when there’s a show so there can be the occassional off night but nobody in town handles crowds and produces quality like they do night in and night out.

My boyfriend and I met up with my cousins here for brunch yesterday. My cousins recommended this place and gave it very high marks, so we were really looking forward to it. However, I ended up with a severe case of food poisoning about 6 hours after eating here. I had the apple crisp French toast, so my best guess is that the eggs and/or milk that were used to make it were bad. I was up for a majority of the night with vomiting and unrelenting stomach pain. My boyfriend had a burger and was completely fine. My cousins were fine as well, so it had to have been only my food that was bad. Such as disappointing experience.

First time visiting Portland. Our air bnb was in the west end. The host mentioned cbg as we love a local neighborhood vibe. It was Tuesday night and they were closed for maintenance. We walked down the street to Nosh. Couldn’t have had a better experience. Wednesday night we were excited to try cbg. PD was the bartender. What a great experience. He’s so animated and friendly. The drinks, the food, the hospitality was top notch. I recommend anyone visiting this great city to add Congress Bar And Grill to your list.

Was walking around Portland looking for food on Feb 8th for way too long. It was wicked cold and windy. We stepped in here to warm up and have a cocktail and grub. The place was right up my alley. Tunes were dope, the old-school 1970’s wall paneling was nostalgic along with castle greyskull above the bar. Service was great. We had 2 very fairly priced vodka sodas each and walked back to the Hotel. Back in the room we both agreed we should have eaten at CBG and hung out a bit… Next time I guess.

We stopped at an awkward time “between lunch and dinner” which limited us to a brunch menu which was pretty small and not a lot of things to order.
We had Buffalo wings and egg benedict, and they were good. On the other hand their beer collection is very good.

We stopped here during lunch time, so we cannot really comment on the evening experience. It’s a basic old-time bar and grill with a kitschy 1980’s atmosphere with old camping movies playing from the 1980’s. The lunchtime waiter/server was nice. The menu is limited. During nice weather, they offer outdoor seating on the sidewalk. Fish and chips was super fresh and fantastic! The Pork Schnitzel was way over-cooked and hard.
Overall, the atmosphere is fun, especially if you want to take a trip into the 80s! the food is nothing to write home about
