Very disappointed, first time trying this place. The chicken looked pale and flavorless but to make things worse it was not cooked properly, it was undercooked. Brisket was flavorless, cooked good but no flavor. Everything was mildly warm almost cold, granted we took it home, but I’ve gotten take out from areas close to RJ and it’s never arrived that cold. They plated it good inside the to go box, showed they cared. If you’re going to spend $43 for 2 for BBQ plates, no drinks, just go to Rudy’s cause this was extremely disappointing.

Here’s my third visit, and it’s the most Tender and moist brisket in Brownsville for a fair price, super soft and juicy, the presentation is professional and visually satisfying to look at and the speed and friendly professionalism of the staff & owners are next level , you won’t find that anywhere that often these days , sure they exist but you have to look hard.. this will definitely be my go to place for BBQ for now on .. This is a family run business that is rated number one in the Rio Grande Valley, and number seven in the whole state of Texas. I love that it’s family run, and everyone that worked there was family and they were wonderful. Very friendly and very hospitable. It’s a very casual dining experience, but this definitely makes it feel like a warm and welcoming family establishment with no pretension.
They have competed regularly over the years and all of their awards are proudly displayed all around the dining area, which was wonderful.
But I really liked to hear they do a lot of work with the community and definitely give back. All the fundraisers they participate in, they are sharing the profits 50-50, most business owners don’t do this.
We ordered the brisket and the ribs. The brisket was absolutely unbelievable. I could have eaten another portion and I’m NOT a big eater!
(The only thing I would say it was that a little on the cold side and would’ve been better if it had been heated up more.) The ribs were also incredible. Really really enjoyed the food!!
Definitely take the time to stop by for some award-winning traditional Texas barbecue!!

Heard it was a good place & it did not disappoint. 5stars✨ Brisket so tender it fell apart. Potato salad was delicious & I don’t normally like coleslaw but I liked this one! Definitely recommend. (Also they have a drive thru which is really convenient.)

When they told me they placed #7 in the whole state of Texas and best in the valley I was skeptic at first, but after having the brisket any doubt left my mind. It was delicious, melted in my mouth and it was almost all meat unlike some other bbq places that their brisket is all nerve/lard. Will definitely be coming back to try the ribs next time and then the burgers. 1000% recommended not expensive at all!

I always spoke highly for RJ’s BBQ. Enough that I referred them to my place of employment as a vendor for our events. They were invited 3 times. The first evet they sold out even though their sandwiches had very little meat. The second time we contacted them to verify they will and they where a no show. Didnt think nothing about it so we invited them one more time giving a slot to them for our 10 year Anniversary. We Contacted months away, then the month of, then 2 weeks, then Monday the week of the event, and then day prior. They said they were coming. I called the day of Raul said I will call you back or text. Never got a response back we had only 1 other vendor selling agua frescas and elotes when we hosted over 1,000 people. Never again will I eat or refer anybody to the business

They were right when they said its the best BBQ. Its the best way to raise funds for schools or any fundraiser. You support your schools and a small business as well. Thank you for all you do for our school Burns Elementary. Thank you RJ for the delicious brisket sandwiches. Can’t wait to try more of your food real soon.
