Our party of 8 had friendly and attentive service. The cocktails and mocktails were very good. The kids liked their fancy mocktails. We came here because we were told the fried ribs were delicious and they were correct, they were delicious. The frites were also good, I got the truffle frites. The carrot cake was pretty good also. They have roof top seating so that’s where we sat.

The Fresian serves delicious slightly upscale faves. Their menu has many options, and I have enjoyed everything I’ve tried. I do find this place a little pricey for a regular place, but do enjoy a nice meal here occasionally. I enjoyed poutine week/Vegan Chef Challenge specials here most recently. (And I saw a comedy show here once, which was cool!!)

A fan favorite in our friend group! We come here for every birthday. I’ve never had anything bad here as well as the options for gluten and dairy free are absolutely amazing. They make being GF/DF so easy and not an eye roll. Service has always been great Hands down, the best.

POUTINE WEEK! September 13-28 on Michigan St in Grand Rapids.

– Poutine Week 2025: Beef Bourguignon (GLUTEN-FREE!!) – $18.00: You will have to ask for it gluten-free, but they basically do not include the lemon crumbles. Overall, their 2025 version is a great representation of a purist poutine.

The braised beef Bourguignon was cooked perfectly with a savory herbed beef gravy. The White Cheddar Cheese Curds were amazing, there were not as many. We had the crunchy parsley-lemon gremolata on the side. Since I am not gluten-free, I tried a portion of it. It was a strong lemon flavor tamed by some rich and savory blends. The house-cut fries were medium cut and high quality.

The quality was very good, though I was a bit disappointed by the size of the portion compared to last year. It is definitely a great representation of poutine.

– Poutine Week 2024: Braised Short Rib Poutine (GLUTEN-FREE!!) – $20: It was the only gluten-free option we could find. Poutine has gravy which is typically made with flour, but can be made with corn starch. They have a gluten-free option which is basically without the Mint Gremolata (which we didn’t want anyway). It was the last serving of the night since they ran out. It was VERY good, so I can see why it ran out.

The hand-cut fries were medium shoestring cut and were mainly soaked in the gravy. The texture wasn’t too bad for what it sounds, though.

The braised short rib was the main player in the dish. It was very tender and you could tell they went all out.

The cheese curds were classic poutine. I thought there wasn’t enough when looking at it, but was actually spot on (there were actually a few leftover at the end).

The citrus crema was potent by itself to the taste, but once stirred in, a wonderful nuance.

I am seriously considering it as first place, but the price tag was $20. It was a good value, though for sure! It was a large plate!!

– Diner Style Smash Burger – $18: Also, I have been wanting to try their smash burger. Couldn’t resist.

The smash burger patty was high quality and cooked right. The bacon was thick and tasty. The toppings were also higher quality and well balanced. The cheese was slightly on the lighter side, but worked in this case really well.

I was really looking forward to the Nantucket bun, but the sesame seeds were a bit over done. The bun was good, though.

– Service: We were allowed to choose our own seats. Some of the tables were not yet cleaned up, so it was a little slim pickings. The waitress was very positive, knowledgeable, and helpful. There was a mix-up about the poutine. We wanted gluten-free and it was not understood the first time, but it was noted and corrected BEFORE it was actually made.

I wasn’t too excited to use the online menu, though. It worked for us since we already knew what we wanted.

– Atmosphere: Darker industrial feel with wood accents. There was softer and quieter music in the background and it was a great quiet place to stop. We dined indoors, but there is outdoor dining out back or on the ROOF!

– Conclusion: This place has a lot to offer! The exterior is a bit deceiving. It is amazing on the inside. It is clean and professional. The food is high quality and at a fair price. It is a little more expensive, but it is worth the price you pay.

Visited during Poutine week on a Thursday in 2024 and Saturday at 2pm in 2025.

Nice little place. Food was good but on the pricey side. We did get a generous portion though. Quiet, nice decor and clean. Definitely worth a visit, and don’t hesitate to try the French Dip!

Update 2023: Visited for brunch today and it was excellent! Both the Corned Beef Hash and Breakfast Burrito were delicious. The bottle of bubbles is reasonably priced as well.

The outdoor patio was impressively upscale and warm! We had a great time and were extremely happy with the food. Everything was spiced well and served beautifully. It’s definitely in a spot of GR I haven’t ventured much before, but may be the place that brings me over more regularly.

Always a great experience with great food. Sometime the food takes a bit, but it never comes out mediocre. The service staff is small but mighty. Special shout out to Sarah, she is a gem. Chef Bob makes a great menu and food. Being patient when a restaurant is busy will allow you to enjoy a great meal.

Parking can be tough if you are afraid of putting your boots on the ground.

Spicy marg is spot on.

Many options for people who have dietary restrictions.

Our appetizers were good. Fondue fries was lacking salt. Pork belly bites were very good. Good balance of salt, sweet, and sour. I also had kalbi fried rice. The portions were smaller for the entrees. Kim chi fried rice was spicy and kalbi was well seasoned. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Our server was Mattie who was excellent but seemed overwhelmed with serving tables and working the bar. We felt bad for her as other workers didn’t look as busy at all. We will return as we want to try other dishes.
