Walk into a Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, and you’ll find walls adorned with vintage and neon signs, beloved classics humming in the jukebox, tables covered in blue and red checkerboard, and plates full of some of the very best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted. Our chicken, prepared using a recipe developed over sixty years ago by the Bonner family, offers the confounding combination of perfectly crispy skin and wonderfully juicy and tender meat. Additionally, our spices offer a kick without ever overwhelming your senses. All plates are served with beans and coleslaw, but feel free to substitute those with any of our sides, all of which are prepared in house daily. And what meal isn’t complete without an ice-cold beer or a slice of pie.
Long-running chain serving spicy fried chicken & comfort sides in a low-key setting.

I had heard so much about Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken — especially from my sister — that I arrived with high expectations. And honestly, it did not disappoint.
We were welcomed by a very polite team member, and when the food arrived… wow. The chicken was absolutely amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen fried chicken that crispy, and the seasoning is truly unique — original, flavorful, and memorable. After tasting it, I completely understood why they call it “World Famous.” That title is definitely earned.
Something unexpected happened during our visit: one plate was missing. Toward the end, our server Hannah came over, along with (I believe) the manager. They both apologized right away and told us the plate would not be charged. I actually felt bad, because it wasn’t their mistake — it was really my difficulty explaining things in English that caused the confusion. Still, they handled everything with kindness, patience, and professionalism.
In the end, we explained that the misunderstanding was on our side, and we appreciated their honesty and hospitality even more.
My family loved the food, the service, and the whole experience.
A big thank-you to Hannah, to the gentleman who first helped us, and to the manager who came personally to speak with us.
Excellent food, wonderful customer service — 5 stars all the way.
We wish them great success and we will definitely return!

Heard a lot of raves about Gus’s chicken from family and friends who ate it at a local music festival so we finally made it out to the restaurant. The place is wheelchair accessible and plenty of space and tables inside. We were greeted and told to have a seat anywhere for dine in. We ordered beers and apps. Nice cold mugs were provided for the beer if you wanted, and crispy pickles and corn bites were served. Both apps were very delish and tasty. We ordered our dinner. Hot and fresh. The chicken is crispy and my 3 piece dark meat had a spice on the skin. My husband enjoyed his 4 large piece tenders. In the end, he took 2 tenders home and I took 1 thigh. The mac n cheese was good and beans are beans. Husband really liked the fries too. Service was quick and attentive. We will definitely be back and recommend.

Really good fried chicken. The first time I tried Gus’ Fried Chicken was in Memphis, Tennessee. At first, I was skeptical the fried chicken would be good; it looked dry in photos. However, I was extremely wrong there – that was some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! So flavorful, moist, and perfectly fried. With that being said, I was so excited to see there was a location in Louisville, Kentucky. I tried it, and it was good but not as good as their Memphis counterpart. Though the chicken was still very moist, it was not as flavorful. Ironically, this place makes it “look” less dry, so I had higher hope that it would be just as good as Memphis, if not better. The chicken seasoning at this place has a kick to it! Nice spicy touch without being overwhelming 🙂 The service was good. They were kind. The food did take slightly longer than expected to come out, considering I only ordered a 2 piece dark. Still, my dish came out piping hot, nice and fresh. The place is nicely decorated and kept clean.

Good place for chicken. Spicy skin and juicy, full of flavor. Good sized pieces, too. Service was spot on! Friendly folks and an open atmosphere. Parking is tight, but overall, a good place to eat when you want to skip the chain fast food chicken.

This was my second trip to Gus’s, and it won’t be my last. In fact, I was sincerely tempted to say to the very sweet and attentive waitress Jennifer, “As God is my witness, I’ll never eat at Raising Cane’s, Zaxby’s, or Chick-fil-A again!” But my kids were with me and they don’t like it when I act up. As much as I liked those three places previously, though, they simply cannot compare to Gus’s. For one thing, the amount of food that you get at Gus’s is amazing. For $12.50 I got the Tender Special, which included 5 gigantic pieces of chicken (seriously, you couldn’t have even fit one of them into that box you get for tenders at Chick-fil-A), a healthy portion of very tasty coleslaw, a healthy portion of lovely baked beans, and a slice of bread. It was more food than I could eat. They have other sides you can substitute in for 50 cents extra: macaroni and cheese, seasoned fries, green beans and other stuff. I recommend a serving of corn nuggets as well…lovely little fritters. Word is that the bone-in chicken is a bit hotter…and you don’t get nearly as much chicken as you get with the tenders (see picture), so I’d stick with the tenders unless you roll hot and slim. And those tenders…I have never tasted chicken like this before. It was so good that I had to make myself stop eating lest I explode. I just had water to drink, but there’s lots of other stuff: soft drinks and many varieties of beer. There’s also some fine looking desert, but I couldn’t even think about that. Seriously, that plate I got could have fed two people…and then you’d even have room for dessert. A most excellent repast!
P.S. I just made my 3rd trip to Gus’s, and should note that the Tender Special I described was no longer on the menu. The regular price for the 4 Tenders (+ sides) is $16.00, which is still an excellent price for a great quantity of food.

The service we received was unsatisfactory. Our order, which included three pieces and half a chicken, took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. Furthermore, customers who arrived after us were served before our order was fulfilled, indicating a potential oversight in processing our request. While a discount and complimentary corn nuggets were offered as compensation, the deep fried chicken’s is crispy, but little salty. The meat itself was juicy and spicy, and the side dishes were acceptable. I am definitely not return if I am back to Louisville.

I’ve heard a lot a chatter about Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken let me tell you it was worth the detour off the highway since I was traveling through Louisville and seen it. The chicken is crispy, flavorful, and it’s some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in a while.

Great customer service. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by some friendly faces who welcomed me with a few specials on their menu. Before placing an order they warned me that all of their chicken were spicy which was no big deal cause I love spicy foods and suggested to me a few of their popular sides as well. I ended up getting their 4 leg special of the day and opted for fried okra instead of coleslaw and placed an additional order for their fried green tomatoes. I really liked that they fried all of their chicken in peanut oil which I could really taste the difference and understand why it’s been such a crowd favorite over the years but the breading that they used was just a little too salty for my liking. But the fried okra and the fried green tomatoes were delicious and I would have no problem coming back for their sides and the complimentary crystal hot sauce that they offer. All in all, the food there was great and so was their customer service… I’m glad we’re one of the few states that have one of their franchises and I will continue to support them whenever I’m in the area.

Came in on Saturday around 1pm and ordered the 2-piece dark with mac & cheese and baked beans. Everything was delicious! The chicken was crispy and flavorful, the mac & cheese was creamy and comforting, and the baked beans were perfectly sweet and savory. Great staff and friendly service made the experience even better.
They also offer homemade pies—chocolate chess, pecan, coconut, and sweet potato—by the slice for $4.25 or whole for $20. Ice cream is just $2.25. I’ll definitely be picking up a pecan pie next time! All in all, a great meal for just $12.29.
