Came early in the morning and grabbed a couple of my favorite BBQ buns and a few dim sum. Everything was delicious.

Amazing Baked BBQ Pork buns. Will be coming back to try their other items next time I’m in the area!

The lines are along very long. The food is very cheap. Can go along with the steam buns or bow buns. Sponge cake is very amazing. The mango sticky rice is superb. It’s best to get there early, but always fresh.

First time coming here and it will definitely not the last time. The workers are very helpful. Prices are reasonable and the quality of their food are A+++. Here’s what we ordered and don’t forget to asked for utensils, soy sauce and hot sauce ☺️

chicken bun (so much filling)
Lo Mai Gai (really good)
sweet rice cake
leek cake
bbq pork rice rolls
pork siomai (definitely needed to order more because it warms up good for the following day)
shrimp dumplings
egg rolls hubs approved
sesame balls
baked hotdog bun (my 11 yrs old love it)

Definitely need to comeback for the porridge because they ran out of it by the time we got there.

Long’s Family Pastry has been around for a couple of decades, possibly longer. I’m rarely on this side of Chinatown or venture south of Broadway so I forgot about the bakery until I ate at ABC & CBS Seafood. Unlike the other 2 more popular bakeries (Queen’s & Phoenix) on the main street, this bakery serves dim sum that’s affordable & tasty, even with the rising prices of dim sum in the restaurants.

Located on Spring St. near Ord St., the hole-in-the-wall bakery gets especially busy on weekends & Chinese holidays with a long line that extends out the door. It’s a no frills with cheap eats & I usually stop by to bag a box or 2 of goodies when I’m in the area. I remembered walking a block over from my dad’s restaurant to pick-up some cheap dim sum (25¢ – 50¢) & bringing it back to work on my homework while noshing; thereafter he said I could grab something from the kitchen & stopped coming during my youth.

LFP has something that I couldn’t find for years when I started having cravings for 砵仔糕 (put chai ko); they’re called almond rice cake here. It’s a Cantonese steamed snack cake that originated in 臺山 (Taishan) which is near Hong Kong. I can’t remember if it was a family friend (aka uncle; we call everyone uncle or auntie even if we’re not related as a sign of respect) or my actual uncle who introduced me to this pudding cake. Another fav is their cake rolls… I used to prefer QB’s vanilla roll but their rolls have gotten skimpy & smaller over the years; I get almost twice the size for the same price here. The pandan is kinda like the vanilla roll but with a hint of floral coconut; the sponge cake isn’t as soft as QB’s, but good enough in my book.

Their custard egg tarts are big & flaky — cheap — that I usually skip the restaurant’s & get them here for my snacking pleasure later. I liked the earlier egg tarts (pre-cv pandemic) with a thinner crust & more custard, now it’s thicker & seemingly smaller. I used to like their 腸粉 (cheung fun) but the execution is off, a bit thicker than before & sometimes gummy from condensation. My kids loved all the sweet buns, cakes, & rolls. My husband likes the steamed & baked baos; they’re great for snacking when he’s at work or home. His current thing is the egg snow bun, a variation of the bbq pork bun.

If you’re a fan of moon cakes, you can get a select variety here all year long.

Long’s Family Pastry is my last stop before heading home, so the line is nonexistent or short. While they accept credit cards (& doesn’t charge a service fee for using one), there’s a minimum but I can’t remember. Maybe $10? I don’t need to worry about it since my order is typically double that. While I wouldn’t go out of my way, I definitely stop in whenever I’m in Chinatown… come to Long’s for cheap dim sum eats! 好吃!

Almond Rice Cake (my childhood/adulthood fav), Baked Hot Dog Bun (my daughter’s fav), Baked BBQ Pork Bun, Baked Pineapple Bun (my son’s fav), BBQ Pork Rice Roll, Chinese Donut/You Tiago (you may need a paper towel to mop up some of the oil especially if it’s just fried), Cream Bun, Cream Sponge Cake, Cupcake (one of my other childhood favs), Custard Egg Tart, Egg Snow Bun, Egg Tart, Pandan Cake Roll (love this!), Rice Cake.

Place I never skip whenever I go to Chinatown in DTLA. It’s my go-to for the best pork siomai and baked snow roll. My favorites include the rice cake, custard egg tart, and veggie egg rolls. Service is fast. I was surprised that there wasn’t a long line today. There is usually a line here.

This is the first time I’ve visited this particular dim sum spot, it’s a cute store front with tons of options especially, moon cakes. The only down side during this visit was that the sit-down area was closed, to-go orders only and I wasn’t in the mood to eat in the car but I also didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to try a new spot. I ordered 3 items; shumai, leek cake and sweet bun! The ingredients seem to be better than that of its competition Won kok, the prices are also reasonable. Can’t wait to come back when I am able to sit and enjoy my meal….

One of my pit stops when I pass by Chinatown. Get your dimsum to go, in and out. You don’t come here for service, you come here for cheap comfort food and speed. Cash is preferred, after the pandemic they now accept credit cards with a $10 minimum order. Recommendations: special chicken bao, pork shumai, bbq pork rice roll, bbq pork bun, hom gok, and sesame balls.

Below average eggrolls
Super gelatiny coconut bun

I would return for the mooncakes only.

They also offer turnip and taro “cake” and congee (chicken and century egg) and I did enjoy all three. They are so popular that by 7:30 am, they were out of most pastries so the bakers in the back were working to keep up with demand.
