I really enjoyed my visit to Lotus Garden.

The food was very good, the service was friendly, and the place feels cozy and comfortable—the kind of spot you can relax and actually enjoy your meal. I originally came hoping to try their hand-pulled noodles, but the chef who makes them is currently traveling in China and will be back next week.

Even so, everything I ordered was solid and satisfying. You can tell the kitchen knows what it’s doing—simple, well-executed dishes, no shortcuts.

I’ll definitely be back next time specifically for the hand-pulled noodles, but this visit was already a good experience overall.

This seafood hand-pulled noodle soup was an absolute standout from the very first sip. The broth delivered deep, earthy flavors that tasted slow-developed and intentional, not rushed or overworked. It was rich without being heavy, allowing the natural sweetness of the seafood to come through clearly. Every element felt balanced and thoughtfully prepared.

The bok choy was cooked perfectly, vibrant, tender at the stems, and lightly crisp at the leaves, adding freshness and contrast to the warmth of the broth. The seafood was generous and well-handled, tender and delicate, never rubbery, and infused with the surrounding aromatics.

The real star, though, was the hand-pulled noodles. They had the ideal chewy, springy texture that only comes from proper technique. Each strand absorbed the broth while still holding its structure, making every bite deeply satisfying.

What stood out just as much was the atmosphere. You could tell a lot of people genuinely enjoyed their meals as soon as they sat down, and nearly every table had a bowl or plate that looked incredible. Seeing so many different dishes come out made it impossible not to feel encouraged to return and try more of the menu. This is comfort food with craft, care, and consistency.

This is the most authentic chinese restaurant in Fairfax county. We had the best chinese new year dinner for our family of 10. Delicious food, good service, and very reasonable price. When i pre-ordered gluten free Peking duck they offered to pick up fresh Giant lobsters for our table. That was the best suggestion and most thoughtful and it was delicious with beautiful presentation. Love this restaurant! Highly recommend it, from a picky chinese grandma.

This place has one of the best noodles in the DMV as they make it fresh for your meal. Additionally, all other choices on menu are done very well and is very authentic Chinese cuisine. One slight negative is that during busy times is can be slow as they are understaffed. But it is worth the wait. Will definitely put Lotus Garden into our regular rotation.

Avoid This Place – Worst Beef Noodle Experience Ever

I almost never leave negative reviews—in fact, this is the first restaurant in my many years living in the US that’s pushed me to do it. I’m writing this literally as I’m walking out the door, still shocked.
We ordered the beef noodle soup, expecting something decent since it’s a popular item here. The beef was straight-up inedible: tough as rubber (literally felt like chewing an eraser), impossible to bite through without effort, and completely lacking any tenderness or flavor. The broth was drowning in MSG—way over the top—so much that it left a chemical, headache-inducing aftertaste that made the whole bowl unpleasant and hard to finish. It genuinely felt cheap and poorly made.
Worse, the service was hostile. The young male manager (or owner?) had an openly malicious attitude—you could see it in his micro-expressions and tone. It made the whole visit uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

If you’re craving beef noodles in the area, go literally anywhere else—this place is a hard pass and a waste of money/time. The only redeeming thing was the short-haired female server, who was polite and friendly (we still tipped her despite everything).
1 star, and I wouldn’t even give that if I could. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

This place has the best hand pulled noodles and broth I’ve ever had. My husband loves the roasted duck noodle soup. I love the roasted pork. We joke that this soup cures us because we always go get it when we are feeling under the weather. It really does make us feel better.

I come back here for the food, hand pulled noodles and soup. Nothing fancy but the food is worth it. Once in awhile you crave that taste that you just can’t really find just everywhere. Went there with a larger group today and they were busy. Props to the servers who are running around to fulfill needy customer requests. There’s a window in the kitchen where the cooks hand pull the noodles so you know what you’re getting. I’m vegetarian and I’m just glad they have veggie options. Again the plate is not multitude or flavors but it’s the simple kind of flavors that’s just done right and always consistent.

Somehow we have never tried this restaurant even though we’ve seen its existence through the years. We dined on a Saturday night and the restaurant was about half full. They offer typical American Chinese takeout options, but also a pretty vast menu of more traditional Chinese food. The fried pork chops and salt and pepper shrimp were highlights. All vegetable dishes were cooked well and so was the beef chow fun. The tofu hot casserole pot was just ok – tofu was too thin. The pepper beef was underwhelming. Recommend getting the knife cut noodles as those are made in house, the hand pulled noodles are not.

If you’re in search of authentic, delicious Chinese food, this is the place to be. It’s a testament to its authenticity that most of its customers are native. As far as I know, this is the only spot where you can get fresh, hand-pulled noodles—if you know of others, please let me know! As a vegetarian, my favorite dish is the vegetable special egg noodles with string beans. The ambiance can be chaotic when it’s busy, but I see that as a sign of a great restaurant, as the flavor never disappoints. I’ve already eaten here twice this week. The only improvement needed is the service; when it gets hectic, the servers often forget to bring water, napkins, or other requested items, as they seem to be understaffed most of the time. So, most of the time, I just go up to the counter and request or grab it myself, which solves the issue. Overall, I would highly recommend it! Their red chili oil is one of the best I have had, and the portions are huge for the price. Just be patient, as English is not the primary language of most of the servers, so there might be some communication barriers, but I can tell they are doing their best.

I can’t believe I just discovered this place after living here for so long! I randomly stumbled upon it, and it was exactly what I’d been looking for. I’m pretty sure it’s Cantonese-style Chinese food, and if you’re after that classic roast duck and crispy pork hanging in the window—along with authentic, non-Americanized dishes—this is the spot.

There were so many things I wanted to try, but we settled on Hunan beef, roast duck, vegetable lo mein, and Buddha’s Delight. We shared everything family-style, though I’m pretty sure I ate most of it myself! The flavors were incredibly authentic and unforgettable. The menu is huge, making it tough to choose, but I can’t wait to go back and try more!
