Writing this as I’m eating their food in my dorm haha.
If you’re looking for authentic Sichuan food then this is THE place to go. I can only think of maybe two or three restaurants that are on par with this place spice-wise that are all located in Chinatown. I’m really happy that I can find this type of cuisine here in University City because I don’t have to take the train to Chinatown just to get Chinese food. As a Chinese person that grew up in both China and America, the amount of spice they have in their dishes is more than enough to satisfy your cravings for Sichuan cuisine.
I came here first with my friends to dine-in but I couldn’t resist ordering take-out one week later because I was CRAVING their spicy edamame! Their dry pots are also very delicious and flavorful. Their non-spicy foods such as the pancake and potatoes are also well-made and crafted and tastes as authentic as it gets. Even the atmosphere itself reminds me of every other Chinese restaurant that my family and I used to go to back in China.
I even kept a menu to myself when I first came because I knew that this was the spot for me to order from if I want familiar food. Definitely will be coming back to order regularly!

Great food , friendly service , little small inside but if you’re looking for a great hole in the wall this is it.. food came out fast and everything tasted good . Pricing is a little bit up there but the quality is worth the price.

Best Chinese food in University with no questions! We order catering from them regularly. DELICIOUS!! The store is also cute. Fast casual set up, no frills, just comfort food. Recommend for a quick bite of authenticity. The lady chef is very accommodating, she always helps with my food allergy.

Excellent DanDan Noodles. If visiting Drexel a must for a lunch or dinner. Casual noodle place. Seems to have a good takeout out business

I’ve been coming to Chengdu Famous Food regularly—it truly feels like my second dining hall. The food is made by authentic chefs and aunties from Sichuan, and it shows: every dish is bursting with flavor, the portions are generous, and the prices are incredibly fair.
What really sets this place apart is the warmth of the service. Every staff member is kind, attentive, and welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that tastes like home and treats you like family.
If you’re craving real Sichuan food near Penn or Drexel, this is the spot. Highly recommended!

Local schezwan restaurant, I only got to try them on the way out. I wanted some noodles or a hot pot, but didn’t seem like a good idea before a flight. I settled on the pork belly sandwich so I could take it togo. There’s seating and table service inside, and a kiosk for togo orders. I sat and waited for the few minutes it took for my order to be prepared. I was expecting a boa bun situation, but it was served on a flat and crispy bun that was somewhat like an English muffin. It was stuffed with onions and peppers and the pork belly. While not a huge amount of food, it was filling and cheap. The pork belly was tender and slightly spicy. It wasn’t too greasy even if I was basically eating bacon fat.

I ordered the fish fillet in garlic sauce thinking it would be sautéed like the chicken in garlic sauce, and it came fried. Due to a medical issue, I can’t eat fried food. When I told our server my situation, she very kindly offered to remake the dish sautéed for no extra charge. It came out so quickly and was absolutely delicious. I really appreciated the accommodation. I will definitely be returning!

Update 2025: We haven’t been in a while. Came today and every dish was cooked to perfection. I won’t make it a regular place for me because it’s a bit pricey overall, but I can’t ask for more from the dishes themselves. 10/10 quality food and service

We spent about $100 without tip on 6 dishes (photos included).

Oh and I love that the manager/owner has a good sense of humor in the reviews!! We’ll be back, but maybe one dish at a time to keep the spending down.

2022: Certain dishes are excellent. The last time I ordered (dumplings in chili oil and general tsos) I didn’t really like it much. Totally different flavor level from what I have come to expect from this place based on other dishes like the potatos and double—fried spicy chicken dish. Prices are much better direct than through online and delivery services.

The Chinese food in Philadelphia with the highest ratio of “Authentic” to “Good” by a large margin. Their Master chef is 1st generation & travelled here to show the world how great real Sichuan cuisine is. It doesn’t get any better than this in this region.

I have ordered dinner delivery from here a few times. All of the food has been very tasty.

Sweet Water Noodles: I really enjoyed – they had a tasty chewy texture and flavorful sweet & spicy sauce.
Cucumber w Garlic Purée: very refreshing and tasty.
Chef Z’s Dumplings: high quality & flavorful.
Eggplant w Salted Egg Yolk: I loved this a lot and it balances out the spicy dishes.
Mala Dry Pot: wasn’t my cup of tea but was full of complex flavor that someone who enjoys that type of dish would enjoy.
Dan Dan Noodles: very tasty (keep in mind that the mild level of spicy is still spicy for most palates in this country) – the peanut flavor kept me coming back for more bites. Shredded Pork w Garlic Sauce: very flavorful and enjoyable as well – I gobbled it down.

Shredded Beef Burger w Green Ox Horn Pepper: very flavorful, but one of the buns was stale/too chewy/dry – weirdly the other bun was good.
