We tried a local pizza restaurant who appeared on Barstool Pizza Review. Maria’s in Milltown, NJ. Noted for their bar pie. The thin crust favorite.
This restaurant has their own parking lot which was impressive in size. This was a nice touch. The entrance to the doorway had a few steps to take with a special sign warning not to hold on to the shaky loose railing.
The interior was typical of a pizza establishment. Staff of 6 were busy and we were greeted at the counter.
Ordered the “Bar Pie” and took about 15 minutes. The pie arrived hot and steamy. The pie looked inviting.
The pie was thin and had a good taste. Could have used more cheese. The crust was super thin with a nice underside crust. The slice had structure and no flop.
Having tasted a few thin crust bar pies Maria’’s had one that was noticeable. It tasted to me as a “Flatbread”. It had a snapped similar to other flatbreads.
The restaurant had a good lunch crowd with a noticeable delivery service and pickup.
Price are reasonable. The menu had a good selection of pies and pasta dishes. They also do catering with specials. Our price for a large pie with 2 cans of soda was $22.50.
Portnoy’s rating was 7.9. Mine is 7.5. Give this place a try.

Still the best pizza around. I grew up in NJ and came here when they opened in the 1980s. Slices are still huge, delicious and for a great price. Staff is super friendly. Just excellent!

Maria’s is the go to pizzeria in milltown. Good service. Good food beyond pizza too! Wings are good. Italian dishes like chicken francese are great options for that person in your house that doesnt like pizza too.

Consistently good. I’ve enjoyed almost every variety of pie they have (maybe pass on the hot dog pie and get an Italian hot dog instead which is one of the better ones around here imo).
Also, they have their own delivery people which, for someone like me who is tired of Doordash markup, makes them that much more appealing.

Pizza so good and the cannoli is outstanding! We got the eggplant pizza, which is really refreshing, and the grandpa pizza, which the vodka sauce doesn’t disappoint. They told us about the cannoli plate and we thought it looks pretty decent so we got them. It blew our mind. 100% recommend it!! (The picture is taken after we all tried it and decided it’s good enough to leave a review to recommend it ❤️)

While I would say it’s more #inspired by the Newark style than a faithful recreation, it was pretty tasty nonetheless! Their pizza is amazing! I got 2 slices and a water for around $7. Super thin with absolutely no flop and didn’t make me feel sick afterwords! Definitely recommend!

I visited Maria’s hoping for a quick run in to get some dough to make pizzas at home with the family. The pizzeria was moving.
Unfortunately, the experience was soured by one of the staff members who was extremely rude from the moment I walked in( shorter fellow behind the counter black slick back hair, he is always there). He seemed annoyed just by taking any orders, didn’t greet me, and responded to simple questions with a dismissive tone. It felt like I was a bother for even showing up.
As someone who values respectful and friendly service — even just basic politeness — this really put me off. I understand people have bad days, but this seemed like a consistent attitude, not a one-time thing. Hence why I just get dough and go home and make it with the kids.
I won’t be returning unless the management addresses the staff’s customer service. Good food isn’t enough to make up for being treated poorly.
