Tried the Affogato for the first time and absolutely loved it. We also ordered the Hilo Sunrise along with the egg, avocado, and hummus plate, and everything was fresh and enjoyable. The food overall was great. The only downside is that there aren’t many dairy-free options available right now, I hope they add some soon. Overall, a lovely experience and would definitely visit again.

Best coffee I’ve had on the big island, by far!
Super happy that this new spot exists. It’s bright but cozy inside, thoughtfully decorated, a 12 out of 10 perfect cappuccino & friendly staff. I mean just look at it… you need to go here and try one. Simple cafe snack menu, and they do full food popups and music events throughout the month. Looking forward to checking more out here, the events seem really well curated.
They even have a little second hand clothing rack and sell $1 records in the back.
With so many mid or low tier options in Hilo I really hope this banger gets the support it deserves.

Came for accordion brunch! First time at Coffee Notes and was very pleased with the ambiance and food. I love that they invite local musicians to play here.
Shared a couple bagel sandwiches with friends— everything was delicious. Dragonfruit soda and cold brew were great too. Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice spot to hang in downtown Hilo!

Went to this shop to get some work done. Walked in to no line, but a flustered employee. She was telling the other employee how much work she had to do. She didn’t address me, but when she finally looked at me I said “I’m not in a big hurry!” She replied “good because it’s going to be at least fifteen minutes til I can get to you”. I sat down and waited for things to lighten up for them to order (only a couple came in – but they had back log apparently). I ordered – she told me they were out of cow’s milk, so would I like oat or almond. I said oat and she up-charged me for it – even though I wanted a whole milk latte! Then she disappeared. I waited twenty minutes before going up and asking for my drink… no one came in the meantime, but they never made my drink. Once I got it it was average at best for a $7+ plain latte.

Finally got to check this place out and loved everything about it. The baristas were so kind, didn’t wait long for my items (I came in right before 8am) and the music in here literally gave coffee shop vibes! Just what Hilo needed. I got the iced matcha latte and blueberry scone (perfect combo btw). Lots of room if you want to sit inside. Lovely location – check it out when you can!

I’m so grateful to have an office space right above Coffee Notes! They are open early so I can grab a coffee on my way to work (although I have a coffee maker in my office, they make a really good cup of mocha so I reward myself every so often). In fact, I’ve earned enough points that I received several FREE mochas. The service is always great & welcoming! There’s enough tables so I can meet clients or friends for a beverage and snack (Coffee Notes has so many drink/ food options to choose from, one of my friends even ordered ice cream during our meeting). The vibes are great, their events are fun and I’m grateful to have a place like that here in Hilo!
Highly recommend!

I got a hazelnut iced latte. I loved that Tina asked me if I was staying in or taking out. Since I was staying in, she used a glass cup which I appreciated as someone who prioritizes sustainability on a local and global scale. I also loved that Tina knew how to create a latter correctly. Many coffee shops get it wrong. Can’t wait to come back to see Tina and to enjoy a good coffee, good music and good vibes. I took a picture of my empty glass to prove how great my iced latte was
