Delicious clam chowder brought me here! The perfect pit stop before hitting up Deerfield and Yankee Candle. Conveniently located off the highway. They’ve got homemade soups, chilis, and chowders, along with grilled sandwiches and stuffed popovers. Very reasonably priced! They won 2025 Advocate Best of the Valley Readers’ Poll for the best place for soup.

The crab roll was the best I’ve had. A Generous portion without too much fillers, binders, mayo or seasoning etc. Just the sweet snow crab shining through. Came with a big portion of fries and some slaw. The slaw was a bit funky- tasted like the mayo was turning bad which deserves a star subtracted, but everything else made up for it.
Seafood chowder and chicken soup were delicious and filling. Tuna melt popover was delightful but I wish I had gotten something other than canned tuna fish.
It feels like a local joint; self service, bussing your own table, food and vibe being the focal point rather than decor.
Only one restroom- spacious and clean.
So glad we stopped rather than Chik-fil-A as was our original plan. It’s hardly a detour off the interstate and with their quick service, made a perfect pit stop on our way home.

Was passing through the area and stopped for dinner. Had scallops fries and a Whoopie pie. Food was not bad. It was tasty. Good stop.

Hands down some of the best chowder I’ve had in my life. You also had a fried clam strip plate. One of their chicken sandwiches and pizzas. Clam strip plate was fried very nicely, but lacked backbone, prepared to be underwhelmed or have a jar of slap your mama in your ready in your pocket. Chicken sandwich was underwhelming and was very heavy on the barbecue sauce and the pizza was quite delicious according to my daughter.

Loveeee Smithsonian chowder house! Lobster and crab rolls are honestly a pretty fair price and the quality always holds up. The bisque is so good as well! I didn’t even know they carried other food items beside seafood too! Tbh probably one of the best places for a roll/seafood in western mass. Shout out to Peter!

Please, by all means, do not get the lobster roll. I paid $38 for this awful roll. I hate to write a bad review, but it was so disappointing and such a waste. It did not taste fresh or flavorful at all. A lot of the food on the menu sounds good, but if it’s anything like the lobster roll, then good luck. I truly don’t know what the other reviewers are raving about when they say how good the rolls are. I don’t think they’ve ever had good seafood before. I don’t know if it’s so bad because of sourcing issues, storage, or who prepared the food or if it’s all three. As a valued customer, I would recommend they readjust their model by taking a field trip to see how other places serve their rolls, like Captain Jack’s or somewhere else.

Well, it happens to be the best place you can get fried clam strips in this area, but they are pretty lackluster , the fish sandwich is gorgeous and you want it to be delightful but it’s dry every time and everything else on the menu is just subpar. There’s nothing that I can’t make in my own kitchen that tastes even better which saddens me to say. I always feel like I’m interrupting a frat party when I show up

My wife and I were traveling from North Carolina to New Hampshire and stopped here for lunch. It was so good that we stopped by again on our way home the next weekend! She had the clam chowder and I had the seafood chowder, both with big grilled cheese sandwiches. It was all delicious. I really wished we lived closer.

Ordered take out today and have been here plenty of times. It seems each time the quality of the soup gets worse. Today I ordered vegetable soup and my co-worker got tomato bisque. Neither of us could eat much. The tomato bisque was WAY over salted. The vegetable soup was not vegetable soup. Yes it had vegetables in it but it was more like vinegary french onion soup with green beans. We were sorely disappointed and had we ordered there (instead of discovering the terrible soups once we were back to work) we definitely wouldn’t asked for a refund.

Great spot for New England comfort foods! My family visits almost every week and never tire of their award-winning chowder, buttery lobster rolls, and made-from-scratch cupcakes.
