I came in on a Friday night around 6pm. I was alone and there were a few tables with groups. I was told as I walked to counter that I could have a seat at any open clean table. I sat and began to look at a menu as my server( the only person running the front of the restaurant) bounced around and asked me for a drink in a respectable time. I ordered a coke( everything is in a can other than water bottles). He came back with the soda, didn’t ask if I wanted ice or a cup. He then had an order pop up for another table , and he excused himself. He took my order after, a 3 shrimp, 3 fish, 3 chicken, fried with green beans and red beans with rice.
I waiting around 20 minutes for my food. I would assume it was because I ordered all fried as people who came in after me got their food rather quickly comparatively. They did order grilled items.
The red beans and rice were amazing. As was the fish. Perfectly breaded, juicy, hot and filling. The shrimp were equally amazing. Great size and not rubbery. The chicken straps were a little on the smaller side, but all and all a great dinner.
If you have to go to the bathroom, you need to go through a door into the restaurant it’s attached to. So prepare for the change in ambiance.
All in all I enjoyed my dinner and will be giving them some business when I want fish on the west side of wichita.

I tell you what, as an outdoorsman. I am picky on fish. How it’s cooked, how it’s seasoned. But this place impressed me. Not only was it cooked, perfect.and the seasoning was perfect there was no silver skin at all on the fish. They had removed all bloodlines they provided large thick catfish fillets ample sized sides for the price. It really can’t be beat. I highly recommend you give Sam southern eatery a try.

I got the 3 piece fish combo, fried with red beans and rice and hush puppies for $11.99. All of it was phenomenal, and I mean the best hush puppies and red beans & rice I’ve ever had. Only time I’ve had fried fish that good is when I made it. The homemade tartar sauce was amazing and the vibe was casually uplifting. However, since I rode a bike there and was carrying a backpack the lady working the front assumed I was homeless or some such addict and treated was such. I was as polite and respectful as anyone can be, I tipped the requisite 15% but it didn’t matter. Overall review: Great food, relaxing atmosphere, and good service but could be better.

The lady behind the counter was extremely rude the minute we walked in, she was clearly annoyed she had customers seeing as we were the only ones there. The place was disgusting and smelt of rotting fish. We had a personal thing come up and needed to leave asap however when we’d asked if we could receive a refund since we hadn’t gotten our food she essentially threw a fit and refused to give us a refund saying “well whose gonna pay for the food that’s being cooked then” I will not be returning terrible service, terrible atmosphere, and considering the smell I can only assume bad food.

1) Lots of great quality food for a great price. I spent 15 dollars and got 3 massive fried fish filets, 3 chicken tenders, and 2 sides. Great homemade sauces too.
2) Friendliest servers I’ve seen lately. Service was perfect and everyone was super friendly and warm
3) Atmosphere is very quiet and clean. Lovely decorations and architecture.

I had 3 piece fish coleslaw and fries. It’s a new place opened up in December they said. As far as Wichita and it’s competitive restaurants. I recommend this place ☺️. Wichita has been needing a good place to go for takeout fish and fries. I am a custom to a onion leak with fried fish, but I’m not complaining on the taste. All in all I plan to visit Sam’s again.

We just had lunch at Sam’s Southern Eatery on West Central. Absolutely delicious!! We had fried fish, shrimp,red beans and rice, green beans and fries. All exceptional but the green beans and red beans and rice were outstanding. The service was perfect!! Let’s keep this one in business!!!!!
