I’m moving my reviews over from Yelp. I googled the place and it told me there were two of them. The other location is approximately 4 blocks from the elementary school I attended on the south side of Chicago. I had a great chat with the owner and learned that his sister started the one in Chicago and he opened the one in the Lou in 2022. Identical menu. How cool!

No relation whatsoever to Seoul Taco, who coincidentally also expanded to the neighborhood where I grew up. Here’s my 2019 review of the HP location:

Saucy Porka kinda rocks! I was in for lunch during a freak late-April winter storm and really enjoyed everything I ate. This place is already pretty well reviewed so I’m just going to hit a couple of the highlights:

* Best bite was certainly the chorizo eggroll. It was simultaneously sweet, spicy, crunchy and loaded with flavor.

* They have a different name for their bao – they call them “baco” because they are served standing up. It’s your restaurant and your pen so I suppose you can write whatever you want but they still look like bao to me. That said, the tofu bao was really outstanding. The bun was light while the tofu had a bit of a crunch to it. The lightly dilled vegetables were sweet and vinegar-y with a nice snap that rounded out each bite.

I tried a few other things but those two were the stand-outs for me. I hope they do well in HP. Their location is a bit of a challenge but maybe 55th Street has changed since I lived in the neighborhood.

1010 super good food. The sweet potato fries were made to perfection. The bacos were amazing. The tofu one was surprisingly well seasoned and flavorful. The rice bowls were delicious and filling. Not a big fan of ordering using my phone personally, but the food is fantastic.

Tried Saucy Potka at an event today. Had the beef nachos and they were pretty solid, good flavor and generous toppings. Price was a little on the higher side, but that’s pretty expected for event food.

Definitely interested in trying more of what they offer next time. Looks like they have some good options worth checking out.

This isn’t ropa vieja at all. It should be shredded like the picture on the website in a red sauce. This was some cubed meat and some random squeeze bottle sauce. It was good but nothing like ropa vieja and nothing like what it should look like (the website).

Quality control is seriously lacking.

Saucy Porka is a total gem. I dined in and ordered an array of dishes and every single one delivered. The egg rolls were hot, crispy, and packed with flavor. The gumbo had just the right amount of depth, comforting without being heavy. And the rice bowl? Fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced. You can tell they put a lot of care into the details here.

The atmosphere was just as impressive. It’s casual but still feels special with colorful touches and a great energy throughout the space. It’s the kind of spot where you want to linger and try one more thing. I’ll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

One of the best spots in St. Louis. Recommend to all my friends. The staff were welcoming and the food was a great fusion mix.

Terrific food. It’s always a go to stop for us when we are near Downtown STL. Full of flavors with portions that are more than enough. The funky monkey fries are a must. Great casual spot.

Ordered Saucy Porka via DoorDash and it exceeded our expectations. Everything was neatly packed and labeled. Even the Funky Monkey Fries had all of its toppings in separate to-go containers so that I could assemble at home and it made everything so fresh. Tried an assortment of Bacos and all flavorful and interesting in their own unique ways. Can’t wait to dine in soon.

Get your butt to Saucy Porka now!

Good place to grab a bite because the food comes out fast. The funky monkey fries and aioli sauce are delicious. Parking can be inconvenient sometimes because it is street parking or 45 degree reverse parking.

SOGGY, NASTY MUSH BOWL

I ordered a large mexi Pho bowl of soup with tofu. Instead I was given Walmart great value spaghetti noodles paired with dishwater! The tofu was soggy and the so called soup was flavorless. The plastic take out bowl had more flavor than the contents.
