Unavu served delicious south Indian food, but the setting in a ghost kitchen hosting 15 restaurants with no human contact took some getting used to. Screens fir ordering and pop open lockers for completed orders in a small waiting area with one bench is not ideal. Best to study the menu in advance, which I did, and even order online so food ready when arrive. Street parking is adequate and prices readonable.

We ordered food from Unavu for our office lunch, and the experience exceeded expectations. The food was authentic, fresh, and homely, with excellent taste and consistent quality across all dishes.

The menu offered a well-balanced selection of dishes, all prepared to a high standard, and most importantly, everyone in the office thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The flavors were genuine and well balanced, reflecting real attention to quality.

Pricing is very reasonable and affordable, making it excellent value for money considering the taste, portions, and overall quality.

I would highly recommend this place for office lunches, group orders, or anyone looking for authentic, high-quality food delivered professionally.

Saw the Baltimore Banner post and had to try a new South Indian place in town! Ordered carry out and took it to Peabody heights brewery next door to eat with some drinks. Dosa and porotta were great! Definitely some kinks with the ordering system, long wait, etc, but figured that is a growing pain that will be worked out.

Rating: ★★★★★★

I recently hosted five friends visiting from India and wanted to provide a truly authentic meal that would make them feel at home. Knowing Dev, the owner of Unavu, I was already aware of his commitment to quality, but this meal truly exceeded expectations.

Using fresh, in-house ingredients and hand-ground spices makes a world of difference. Our table was filled with excitement over the genuine “home-style” flavor of every dish. We ordered several items—including the Biryani, Chicken Tikka, Saag Paneer, Naan and plenty of Samosas—and everything was seasoned to perfection. You can request specific heat levels, and the traditional spice we ordered was spot on.

Baltimore has many Indian restaurants, but Unavu is a step above. Whether you’re placing a small order or looking for full catering, don’t miss this local gem!

Ordered masala dosa, chicken kothu parotta, and chicken biryani — and wow, the taste was out of this world! The flavors were rich and authentic!! Easily the best Indian restaurant I’ve eaten at in the US. The kothu parotta especially was incredible — it took me right back home with its authentic flavors. This is a real gem, if you are in and around Baltimore, this place is not be missed!!!

I ordered masala dosa and idlis. The dosa was excellent – golden outside and moist inside. A perfect home made dosa ( not the burnt ones you get at the other restaurants) The flavor of the sambhar and chutneys was also very authentic. I ordered more food today and I cant wait to try it. I liked the locker system of carry out also. I used to go to Gaithersburg for my dosa fix, now I can get it right here by the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. Keep up the good work and good luck with this endeavor.

We ordered Ambur chicken biriyani and dosa with chicken curry for takeout.

I have lived Bengaluru for over 10 years and I have developed my south Indian taste buds in the city. When I heard about Unavu, I jumped with joy having a south Indian restaurant a mile away from my home.

Ambur chicken biriyani- Packed flavour and where it did not disappoint was the heat and spice level. Felt true Indian level spice after a long time.
But, this was not ambur style biriyani but a thalapakati or a regular chennai style biriyani drawing fragrance and flavours from methi leaves and black cardamom. The fried chicken instead of chicken cooked in the raw spices did not help at all.
I thoroughly enjoyed the biriyani though!

Dosa with chicken curry: Chicken curry was prepared with Chettinad masala. Loved it. Perfectly complimented the dosas.

My first order was last week during a lunch break and the order was ready fast. Unfortunately they gave me butter chicken instead of tikka masala. I tried to call but the number wasn’t working and no one replied to the texts. I don’t mind butter chicken so I tried eating it, but the sauce was so heavy with cream and lacking salt I ended up picking out the chicken and adding salt. The chicken itself was very tender. The chilli gobi was completely soggy, but the flavors were better. The order came with rice, but the online menu doesn’t indicate that so I could see someone accidentally ordering a side of rice. I liked the ease of picking my order up from a locker, but I think I would order something else and hope that it’s the right thing.

After watching a youtube video about Unavu, me and my husband, who is from south India, were excited to try it.
Unavu is take-out place only, there is no seating available. The order and pick up process was easy, and the wait time since placing the order was great – about 20 minutes.
The food was ok, but our expectations were higher than reality. Don’t get me wrong – the food was good, but I’d rate it as average.
I had a masala dosa which was nice and crispy, but there was very little filling in it. My husband had a shredded paratha which was ok to me, but underwhelming to my husband. We also tried chili gobi which was good.
The spice levels were all over the place – the highest spice level that we chose was not the most spicy meal out of our order. One of the medium level spiciness was the most spicy and the other medium was the least spicy of all.
The food was pretty pricey. 19$ for a masala dosa is a lot, especially for a place that is take-out only.

If I could give Unavu more than 5 stars I would!! I catered through them, and the food was prepared perfectly to specification. Several guests asked for Unavu’s address to patronize it themselves!! Stephen personally delivered the orders on two consecutive days. I really am so impressed and grateful for the care and effort the team took to curate a wonderful meal!!
