Welcome to the most iconic Afternoon Tea in Cape Town – a bucket list experience! The Mount Nelson first introduced Afternoon Tea in November 1989. It was served in the lounge from the majestic Windsor Table. The custom of taking Afternoon Tea was invented by the Duchess of Bedford and Queen Victoria’s lady-in-waiting nearly 200 years ago, in order to bridge the long gap between lunch and dinner. With a selection of over 70 fine loose leaf teas and sustainably sourced coffee from around Africa and a sumptuous array of sweet and savoury delicacies created b y Head Pastry Chef Vicky Gurovich and the talented Mount Nelson, we look forward to welcoming you to this special treat. We celebrated Chinese New Year at Mount Nelson having the High tea. Their service is absolutely amazing, from booking to table service, they do go extra mile to make sure customers are happy. The restaurant and hotel is regal and beautiful, their High tea foods is delicious, and they really do know their wide selection of teas well. We highly recommend this beautiful restaurant for the High tea, it is a lovely experience not to be missed!

I made a reservation for 16 december but to my horror I found out on the day itself that I had accidentally made te reservation for the 15th. I called the hotel to explain and even though they were fully booked, they managed to squeeze me in without any penalties. I was and still am so grateful that they were so flexible to fit me in. Thanks Kim and Precious for making this happen!
The food was great but way too much. The tea menu was extensive, a little bit too much for someone that doesn’t drink tea that much.
The decor was was lovely and the service excellent!

If you’re looking for a luxurious high tea experience, this is the place to go. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. There’s an impressive selection of teas and champagnes; the English and Russian blends were my personal favorites, and the berry-infused tea was delightfully sweet.
Don’t let the size of the finger foods fool you…they’re incredibly filling. And just when you think you’re done, there’s a full cake buffet to top it all off! I practically had to roll myself out of there.
One request: if you ever decide to sell your strawberry jam, I’d be first in line. It’s heavenly!

So many people have recommended High Tea at Mount Nelson and I enjoyed going before COVID. Why? Because it was a real buffet. One could forgive the poor service because of the buffet.
I took my girlfriend there two years ago and the famous buffet was gone, which was a disappointment. But, the service was really good.
My girlfriend went today for a bachelorette event with friends. She mentioned that the food offer was even worse. R600 for High Tea, and she returns home still hungry!
She complained about very bad service.
You cannot continue to float the entire concept of High Tea on the beauty of the venue. There needs to be a good value proposition, aligned with good service.
I hope that things will change by our next visit.

I can not think of a single critique on this experience. Our waiter Wiseman was so knowledgeable and friendly as was all the staff. Wish i could live there with them full time it was so relaxing and pleasant.

The staff are always warm and welcoming with lots of character. We had Thabisa looking after us today and she definitely made it kroe memorable and ensured we had everything we needed.
Always a treat to come and would highly recommend trying it, you won’t be disappointed 🙂

I brought my mom to the Afternoon Tea to celebrate her birthday and it was such a spectacular experience. From the service to the food, teas and atmosphere, I would go back in a heartbeat! A special mention to our waitress Emma, who was so lovely, attentive and helpful. She truly made it a top tier experience. Highly recommend!
