Wow, just wow. Thamel in Edinburgh is hands down one of my favourite dinners ever. The vibe is cozy, stylish, and full of personality — you instantly feel welcome. The food… unreal. Butter chicken that’s silky perfection, Manchurian chicken chilli with the perfect kick, and the lamb shank? Melt-in-your-mouth magic. Sides like garlic naan and mushroom rice just elevate everything.

Dessert was next-level too — the masala chai tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding are musts.

And then there’s The Blind Tiger downstairs. Hidden behind a bookcase, it’s moody, intimate, and the cocktails are creative genius. The menu is like a map of Nepal and each drink takes you on a little journey. We were obsessed.

Amazing food, incredible drinks, beautiful atmosphere, and super friendly staff. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat!

One of the best meals I’ve had. The Dahl is so tasty, also seabass, lamb and chicken.

Naan is thin as it should be.

Great drinks & atmosphere.

Outstanding sleeper food hit, deep fried okra.

“Today we went to Thamel Restaurant in Edinburgh. Even though we had a booking, there were no seats at first. But, the waiter Kushal was very kind and found a seat for us. He helped us with ordering food and made sure we were comfortable. The food was very tasty, and because it was our first time there, we really enjoyed the experience. Lastly, we want to say thank you to waiter Kushal. He is a very nice, polite, and helpful person, and his good service made our visit special.” ✨

One of my best food experiences in a very long time at the Nepalese themed Thamel in Edinburgh. Sachin, our waitron, recommended some incredible dishes, we had the tikka chicken, butter chicken and the manchunian chicken, with an array of naan breads, rice, samoosas and a spicy chicken salad starter. 3 of us sharing our dishes, it was a gastronomic journey of delightful proportions!

I had a wonderful time at Thamel!

The service was so kind, Jamuna was a great server. She was worried about our heat tolerance, and gave us yogurt for the spicier dishes (I’m strong with heat, but the gesture was so sweet)

The surprise star of our meal were the cocktails, so gorgeous and really started off our meal on a high note.

Fantastic Service, Great mouth-watering food, the Thamel Margarita cocktail is absolutely beautiful and I thought I didn’t like margaritas. Between four of us we had 16, that good. Superb rum selection and not the predictable mediocre rubbish. Don’t forget the very cool downstairs hidden speakeasy. And throughout our dinner and downstairs they played the best soulful tunes .

This restaurant is fantastic

Best restaurant in Edinburgh. Me and my partner can’t get enough of this place. The meat is always succulent and the sauces they come in have so much depth and flavour. The staff are so accommodating and kind. We love to sit in and even get the takeaway both are great. If I could go here every evening I would!

Not sure if unlucky or timing out but for us never met expectations. Had heard good things, but left underwhelmed. Found experience very rushed, food first bite of everything tasty but by end of meal, balance gone and one flavour dominated a dish, some dishes not quite hot enough (but just so dont complain), Desserts sounded great, but in delivery reminded me of desserts you get in an AI buffet. But nice decor, very busy and many others seemed to be enjoying.

I went from London to Edinburgh for a holiday and found this restaurant – and it was such a great experience!

For any Nepali brother/sister or anyone who wants to try Nepali food in Edinburgh, Thamel is the perfect place. The food tastes just like home – घरकै स्वाद (taste of home). I tried one of their new menu dishes, and it was delicious – full of flavor and nicely prepared. The naan and curry were amazing, and the whole meal really reminded me of authentic Nepali taste.

The service was excellent. The staff were very friendly, respectful, and treated me really well. No judgment, just genuine Nepali hospitality.

If you’re missing Nepali food or just curious to try it, I definitely recommend coming here!

Thamel does amazing Nepali food. They have amazing vegetarian and non-vegeterian options! Really wish they had a proper Nepali plate( 10 pc momo) on their menu. They only do small platters but they are still good.
