I actually really like Menya for their Japanese menu- specifically their rice bowls for takeout. They’ve always hit the spot for me! But the other day, I went with family to try out their new Korean menu, since we’re really fond of Korean cuisine.

If I’m being honest- it was expensive for what we got. I ordered a set with Bulgogi and Kimchi Stew, and my brother got LA Galbi. We got a side of fried dumplings for apps.

Unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations.

My bulgogi was overpowered by sesame oil, and the jiggae was of the same taste as a store bought sauce packet. Even my brother who loves stew but can’t handle spice said it was bland. The dumplings were fine but 6 pieces for that price is basically a rip.

However the galbi and the rest of the dishes came out on sizzling platters, and clay pots, that made the experience feel a little better in addition to the decor.

But for the quality of the Korean Menu, you would definitely find a better taste elsewhere.

If you’re going to Menya, definitely order from their Japanese Menu instead.

Decently good ramen for the area, too much noodles, they don’t ask what noodles you prefer (I.e. how much they are boiled). VERY GOOD selection of different dishes, which is their strength.

Menya Sandai-me is a Japanese ramen restaurant specializing in Tokyo-style broth and house-made noodles, complemented by Korean-inspired dishes such as fried chicken and soft tofu stews. They also offer a BYOB (beer) option from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM daily.

I ordered delivery. Chicken karage and gyudon. Given the price I paid, the food quality and presentation were quite disappointing. Tasted salty and greasy, also not fresh. Wouldn’t try again

7/10 Fried K-Chicken: Honey Garlic
5.5/10 Chicken Buns
5/10 Miso Soup

The k-fried chicken is tasty but it is soggy and barely crunchy. The miso soup tasted diluted with not much flavor and the chicken buns was barely flavored.

Dont go there. The jokers there dont speak english, mess up your order. They served my order to my neighbor table. The gentle man had almost taken a bite, when the server comes rushing out … pulls the plate from his table and offers to me. When I refuse to take, she takes it back to kitchen and returns within 30 secs with “fresh plate”. When I ask how it was made so fast, starts arguing and being rude and offensive! She was yelling while not being able to talk in english and saying something to effect of “proud business”.

This is not the way a “Proud business” treats its well paying (and well tipping customers!!!)

You have NO HONOR… shame on you!

Absolutely pathetic service and business standards. Never ever going there back!!!
Avoid if you can!

Menya Sandaime in Jersey City is a no-frills, casual ramen spot. The portion sizes are satisfying, making it a good value, and the space is spacious with plenty of seats, great for both small and large groups.

The ramen is okay for a quick lunch, though I found the broth a bit lacking in flavor, so I wouldn’t necessarily come here for an indulgent dinner. The gyoza, however, was a highlight, and I’d happily return for that. Service was quick, and our food arrived super fast. Overall, a solid meal and a convenient spot if you’re looking for a casual, filling bite.

Honestly so bad… chicken was actually inedible in my opinion, my boyfriend was able to stomach one piece (and he will eat anything)…

The ramen wasn’t bad, very basic but did the trick. Pork was not good, would recommend trying a different meat? Not chicken either lol

It’s BYOB so if you’re drunk, then maybe just get the ramen.

I got the Gyudon rice bowl, and it was delicious. I’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

Nice Japanese restaurant located in Newport. I’ve been here a couple of times and really enjoyed their food. There is no table service – so don’t expect for that. Even the place being empty, we still needed to go and bring our order to the table. All the good we’ve tried were good and tasty – the guiozas are so good! The place is so cozy and clean! Only the service could be better.
