La Cantina always hits. This is the best Mexican place in Brookings. The shrimp tacos are a staple for me, I would recommend! The fish tacos are also good as well. The service was awesome, they got our orders in right away and the food comes out super fast. The environment is super cute, I love the orange walls and pictures hanging through the restaurant. I wish the music was a little quieter, we were seated under a speak and it was quite loud. Other than that, I have no complaints!

Today I went to eat with my husband to celebrate Valentine’s Day and the truth is that I was very satisfied with the waiter’s treatment and the food was very delicious. I ordered a 7 mares broth and I went back to the past. I hadn’t tried one like this for years since my dad cooked it in my beloved Michoacán and my husband was delighted with a California burrito. The last time he ate one like that was in Nebraska and we didn’t expect to find a place here that made it that delicious and the horchata water and Jamaica very delicious. This is the second time my boyfriend and I have been there. Both times we had Jose as our waiter, he is super fun, sweet and personable. The food is absolutely ridiculously good. I’d give 10 stars if I could. Both times I leave saying “oh my God” because it’s so good. I always leave full and have leftovers. And they’re incredibly well priced too. My new favorite place in town, that’s for sure.
(First time I had the Texas cheese steak burrito which was incredible. This time I had the jarocho which might have been even better. He had carne asada the first time and pollo jalisco this time. ABSOLUTELY incredible)

I’ve been to alot of Mexican restaurants but this one definitely has the Best food of all of them. They have really good service as well.
It was fast and Friendly. I had my food within 5 minutes of ordering it. I highly recommend La Cantina to anybody that wants some delicious authentic Mexican food.

I ordered enchiladas because they’re the one item that should be safe at any Mexican restaurant. That continues to be a prudent rule as the meal was good, not awful or amazing. It just came with rice so I had to ask for a side of beans. It always bums me out when an entre doesn’t have both, but that’s not a war crime or anything.
The chips and salsa were brought out quickly. The chips were good, and I liked the salsa. The raspberry marg took long enough that it started to feel like they’d forgotten about it, and I kinda wish they had. I might be picky, but I didn’t love it. It looked awesome, though, so bonus points for presentation.
The server struck me as a bit unresponsive as I had to ask for something twice and he wasn’t in the county when I wanted to pay, but I’m sure he’s a great dad or ballroom dancer or whatever else he does away from work.
The cost for the meal was less than I expected. Not a terrible experience, but a bit unremarkable. That said, I’d return if I were in the area at mealtime and wanted Mexican food. I’d probably get the same thing less the marg.

Salsa was WAY too sweet. We added Valentina, salt (both on the table), and lime, (had to request), and then it was good. My margarita came with pineapple and grapefruit on the rim – both of which I’m allergic to and would have stated if I knew they came one a lime margarita. My enchilada did not come with enchilada sauce, just cheese which was a little bit of a let down. Hubby LOVED the rice, so much – he was stealing it from my plate while I wrote this. I did get a number 6 with steak/fajitas meat and it was really good! No fat at all! Hubby ordered a chicken chimichanga, he said it was really good!!! The margarita was great! Chips were fresh! All in all was pretty decent and tasty with good service. Only giving 4 stars due to the last two times being here it wasn’t that great. But it has been a while and we decided to give another try. Food was very flavorful! *the menu is a bit busy for those that may have a processing disorder, maybe ask for a kids menu when you sit down.

Great restaurant in a South Dakota town. Food was excellent, our wait person was from Guanajuato, he was very friendly, cordial and appreciative. Atmosphere was enjoyable, music playing was great! I definitely will return to this restaurant when I am back in the area. I highly recommend.
