This place is a gem. Right on the corner of Main Street in downtown South Boston, Southern Plenty was much more than I expected. I was there for a fairly late lunch, and had the best prosciutto, caramelized onion, and fig jam sandwich. I think it was called the Pomona and was a lunch special. See the image for a look.
The regular menu looked great, and I should be very clear about how affordable the prices were. There is a coffee bar and they do have refrigerated takeout items, as well. Don’t sleep on their bakery case, though. Macarons, mini bundt cakes, muffins, cookies, and more. It was very hard to narrow it down, but I managed.
Everyone I interacted with was super. The bathroom was well kept and modern.
I don’t often travel this way, but a beautiful snowy day pulled me off of the interstate and down back roads between Richmond and Greensboro. I’m glad I drove through South Boston and I’m even more glad I stopped at Southern Plenty.

Wonderful breakfast food to eat, especially the buttermilk pancakes. The drinks they serve are delicious. The cashier was polite and charming. The decor is simplistic and cute. A perfect place to have breakfast and work remotely. I wished I came by the café more often. Their macaroons are delicious as well.

I had the privilege of working with Southern Plenty to coordinate a fruit bouquet/platter for a family that had just come from the hospital. Southern Plenty was going to make a floral bouquet out of fruit but I needed it the next day so we settled on a platter instead. I am very pleased with how it turned out especially since edible arrangements will not deliver to the South Boston area. Thank you again for such a quick turnaround and great customer service.

The service was great, my servers name was Lucy and she made my matcha latte exceptional! You can get bacon strips to order here, which is what I got. Lovely place in south Boston, please visit 🙂

I had higher expectations for the quiche. Coffee with extra shot cost $7 and it was still not strong enough. Cinnamon roll was good.

My wife and I were running errands in South Boston, VA (August 13, 2025) and stopped in at Southern Plenty for lunch. We both had the English Blend V – house pimento cheese and fresh greens on a warm butter croissant. The pimento cheese was layered on thick and had a tangy flavor. Delicious! I also had the sweet macaroni salad as a side. The macaroni was surprisingly light and the bits of red onion in it added a refreshing crunch factor. Wait staff were friendly and greeted customers with a smile. The dining room overlooked Main Street so you can chat and watch car and pedestrian traffic as you eat. Good food, pleasant wait staff, and an inviting dining room make for a wonderful meal experience! Be sure to stop here during your next visit to South Boston, VA. I know my wife and I will!

Tried this place for lunch while on a business trip. I had the Golden Leaf salad with grilled chicken with poppyseed dressing. It was absolutely delicious and ingredients were fresh. It came with a small corn muffin. (I should’ve taken a picture before I started eating. )
The desserts looked so good I purchased some to go for my family and me. I got thr key lime cheesecake, turtle cheesecake, bread pudding, and a blueberry muffin. It all was delicious! (Family said so as well!) I’m willing to make the almost 2 hr drive just to go back to this place for a meal and desserts.
The customer service was top-notch. Very friendly, patient, and accommodating!
Very relaxed atmosphere. Not a lot of seating, but was able to sit at the high table area by the window. Last but not least, the prices are reasonable. Especially the desserts. (

I was expecting southern food from the business name and found that the menu is sandwiches. I tried the turkey with garlic sauce and found it waaaaaay too sweet, actually sickeningly sweet. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Reuben and we actually loved the cleanliness and atmosphere of the place. I love hearing the creak of early 1900s flooring, glad they left it original.
