My son and I just went back for the second time! Just as our first experience with this awesome restaurant, our drinks were out in five minutes and after twenty minutes we both had our dinners served to us, hot and fresh. The food here is so good and the portions are more than enough. Again, we were greeted with smiles and provided with outstanding customer service. The staff even remembered us from our first visit, which means a lot. We have yet to be disappointed, which is why we keep returning.
When I walked into the restaurant, I was immediately greeted and then seated. Within five minutes, the drinks were brought to us, and within about fifteen minutes, my food was brought out, nice and hot.
The menu here is HUGE and there are soooo many options. The menu prices are very fair, and so are the food portions.
Good food and good service = happy customers!

As a Peruvian, we don’t usually eat Mexican or Tex-Mex food because the seasonings are very different from what we’re used to. However, I have to leave a review for this place because I have enjoyed their food and their service every single time I have visited.
El Zócalo Restaurant has been in Wheeling for a while, and it changed ownership almost two years ago. Under the new owners, the menu, the place, and the food changed a bit — for the better. The environment is welcoming and cozy. It has about 19 tables and can host large groups. They also have a bar with plenty of Latin-inspired drinks, draft beers, and margaritas always ready.
The menu is extensive, like many Mexican restaurants, mostly because with the ingredients they use, they can prepare many different dishes. The plates are well-made and fairly priced, especially in today’s economy. As of today, regular single tacos are $2.99, and a quesadilla served with rice, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream is $13.99. Lunch specials start at $9.95. My favorites are the arroz con pollo, pollo Monterrey, and their flan. They also have several dessert options.
One thing to note is that the place is impeccable. Literally spotless — from the entrance to the back door. The owners’ care is obvious and constant.
They have specials every day of the week as well as a lunch menu. They are open from 11 to 9 every day.

Food: 4/5 ✨ – Chips&Salsa were good. We have different reviews for each entre: Tacos de Birria = 3/5 ✨ (We know it’s deep-fried, but it was a little too saturated for serving – could have spent more time on the paper towel); Fajita Nachos (Mixed with chicken and steak + enhanced by grilled Jalepeños ️) = 4.5/5 ✨ (If it came with the side plate of lettuce, rice, beans, and sour cream, like for a Fajitas order, it would have been perfect!). The frozen mango margarita had a nice twist (it had untertones of an Orange Julius/Dreamsickle).
Service: 4.5/5 ✨ – Friendly and gave his opinion (very honest about what he did and did not have first-hand experience with on the menu)

Everything was excellent. Loved the chimichangas, tacos, sopapillias, and how they put the refried beans in a little tortilla! The menu is massive, so we will definitely return to try some other dishes

Today, Sunday afternoon, was our first time eating here. The menu was quite extensive and had a nice build your own combo option. The prices were very comparable to other local Mexican establishments. It was well decorated and colorful. The complimentary salsa was tasty. Food portions were generous and well-seasoned. They offered kids cups, a thorough kids menu, and activity paper with crayons. The best part of the restaurant was the friendliness of the employees. They went above and beyond in their interaction with us and their other patrons. We will be back.

Awesome, this was our first time here. I had tacos Mexicano, I tried i of each. The chorizo was the stand out star, but all were delicious. The house salsa has to be the best in the valley. Can’t wait to go back.

Went on $2 off burrito thursdays. We ordered a chicken burrito with beans and cheese. Burrito came and it was just tortilla and chicken. No beans or cheese. We mentioned this to the owner (who was our waiter for the night) and he got argumentative. I had to show him on the menu where it said cheese and beans before he would make another. He was obviously not hapoy about making another. When we went to pay he refused to take $2 off of the burrito and made us pay full price instead of honiring the promotion

They are under new management n sorry to say some things have gone down hill food wise…. Free chips n salsa joke not enough salsa for the basket of chips they give you, no liquor license.
But they do have more menu items n they are delicious Street Tacos….
