The Hype is Real: Featured in Virginia Living and The Local Palate, this spot masters a unique “Appalachian + Pakistani” fusion.
What to Order: The famous “Curry Me Down South” (Tomato-based chicken curry over Southern mashed potatoes). Or My new favorite Born and Corn Bread.
Why It Wins:
Atmosphere: The new spot at Abingdon Commons is cozy and vibrant.
Versatility: Eat there, take it home, or pack it for a hike—the food travels perfectly.
Verdict: Incredible flavor, eco-friendly packaging, and great people. 10/10.

If you loved the food truck like the rest of us, you’re gonna love this because The Pakalachian is back and better than ever!
We thought the food couldn’t get better, but we were wrong. The brick and mortar location changed the freshness game with the ability to make small batches more efficiently and as usual, our food came out super quick, super hot, and super fresh.
Service is always consistently friendly and welcoming which makes us love this place more. They treat you like family and they’re widely loved by the community because of it.
The curry me down south is a creative concoction that I’d never had previously, but it feels like home. The chicken curry is phenomenal, but the pairing with the smooth delicious mashed potatoes make it comfort food. I always get the full portion so I can have it twice. (It’s just as good leftover!) Be sure to add the chutney for extra flavor depth. It’s my favorite!
My husband loves the tikka my senses sandwich. The chicken is juicy and tender with a perfectly fried and crispy seasoned outside. Pair it with the pickles and dill ranch, game over. Flavor explosion. Best chicken sandwich. To top it off the fries were perfectly cooked and the seasoning on them was so good.
Lastly, I had seen chai tea on the menu and hadn’t ever had the opportunity to try it, so they gave me some to try. The verdict is that it’s delicious and I’m hooked.
So glad we will be able to have this food more regularly and we don’t have to strategize a lunch plan to get to them before they sell out anymore!

We were lucky enough to meet the head chef and owner of the restaurant while visiting their Abingdon location (physical address) over Valentine’s Day weekend. The place was hopping but they did a great job keeping up with the demand. We’d heard about the place from an acquaintance the night before and knew we had to try them out for lunch. We are so glad we did. The service was incredible from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious and very well done. The flavors were outstanding and a perfect mix of Pakistani and Appalachian. We consider both to be “comfort food” in nature so this is a brilliant concept. The owner was extremely down to earth, seems to have a very kind spirit, and was lovely to connect with – as was the rest of his staff. We highly recommend trying the chicken sandwhich and whatever special they have on the menu on the day you go. We got to experience the Kafta – yum!!! Their Curry and Chai drink are also delicious. Do not miss this place. It’s very special.

This food is simply incredible. It is so flavorful and comforting. We had the Curry Me Down South and the Born and Cornbread. Such a nice combination of two very different styles/cultures/regions. I’m normally not a big fan of “fusion” but they have absolutely nailed it. I wish I lived close enough to eat this regularly, but I will 100% be back anytime I’m in the area. It was so good I went twice in the same day! My taste buds will be haunted by the flavors forever. Thanks for such a memorable meal, Pakalachian!!!

The most amazing vegetarian options around. Generous portions make delicious leftovers. I had eaten from their food truck at Rhythm and Roots and was excited to have a brick and mortar option. They did not disappoint.

I have eaten from this place since it was a food truck. They always have fresh food and it never has changed. My favorite is “Curry Me Down South.” The people who work there are always so nice and they all have worked hard to make it a friendly and welcoming experience. Definitely a need-to-try restaurant!

I’ve never been a big food truckie but I have been a huge fan of Pakalachian since my first bite. It was a taste-buds-dancing-eyes widening-look-around-in-disbelief-and-pure-bliss-kinda moment.
This is my favorite food truck, ever. How food can taste completely novel, creative, yet authentic at the same time is beyond me! The menu changes from time to time, and they sometimes have things like fried green pakoras or pawpaw lassi. Genius.
The classic Curry Me Down South is my favorite menu item—AMAZING curry on mashed potatoes, and that chutney—yum. I will go out of my way to go to Pakalachian. I hope they open a restaurant someday. Dang, rereading my own review has me craving their food now!
