This was definitely one of the very best Indian meals I’ve had. I’ve eaten at Indian restaurants in many large and medium sized cities. The flavor of this meal was unforgettable. We started with the kothu paretta appetizer with lamb. Then we shared the chicken dosai and the goat curry for entrees. The paretta and goat curry were definitely the stars. The dosai was a dish I’d not had before and we thoroughly enjoyed it as well. We will definitely eat here again the next time we visit Nelson.

Having eaten here over a dozen times over the past 5+ years, I have never been disappointed. Their last renovation introduced a beautiful aesthetic to the room, and the food is consistently amazing. Authentically spiced, with many options to choose from, served up with a smile.
Also, the massive lime tree in front of the restaurant provides a gorgeous natural canopy of shade, protecting diners from the hot sun on a summer’s day.

The only reason I stayed was because of one staff member who attended us. Unfortunately, I don’t remember his name, but he was from Mumbai. He was genuinely warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome.
The service overall was very good and the staff is cordial.
However, the food was a letdown. I ordered a non-veg thali and could tell it wasn’t fresh. I informed them and they immediately replaced it, which I appreciated. Even the second serving didn’t feel fresh, and I didn’t feel good after eating it.
Great service, but the food quality really needs improvement.

We chose to spend Valentines dinner at this restaurant, having their set menu. Each course had a choice of 2 or 3 items, with a glass of rose’ to start the meal. Hint: book a reservation no matter what day as it is a popular place and many are turned away.

The restaurant is pleasant, simply decorated and almost minimalist; a clean look. We liked the tables are not crammed together but have enough space there is at least some sense of “on your own”.

Service was good right out of the gate and all staff were friendly and attentive as they could be given the occasional chaos. If there was a shortcoming it was the drink service, which was well behind the food service.

We both ordered separate items so we could taste test and of items, the Sri Lankan Beef rolls, Beet Watermelon and Feta salad, and the King Fish Steak deserve mention. Overall, the meal left us pleasantly full and very satisfied. Spices were on the mark.

The only unpleasant moment was out of control of the restaurant, as a homeless person came in loudly and rudely; disrupting things for 3-4 minutes while they warmed up. Staff were very good at handling the situation. It would be wise for the City of Nelson to address this much broader downtown challenge.

We had a great Valentine’s Day dinner here. The prices were very reasonable (at least by our American standards). Every course was creative and flavorful. The waitstaff were a bit overwhelmed but very polite. The space is tastefully decorated, too. I would definitely come back.

Absolutely loved Kootenay Tamil Kitchen! Took two friends along to introduce them to authentic Tamil South Indian food, and this place did not disappoint , the food was absolutely delicious. The owner/ Chef and the server did a fantastic job and made us feel so welcome. Had thoothukudi kothu parotta, chicken 65 , Veg uthappam and desserts.Everything was delicious. This is definitely a must-visit if you are in Nelson or even just passing through. I’ll definitely be back – and honestly, I wish they would open a location in the Okanagan since we don’t have many good South Indian restaurants here

We had an excellent meal here! What a wonderful surprise to find such an authentic South Indian restaurant in the Kootenays! The dosa, veggie thali and chai were fresh and the flavours were balanced.
The decor of the restaurant is so beautiful, and the service was fantastic. We really had a great dining experience overall! Can’t wait to come back.

A wonderful Indian (Tamil) restaurant with exceptional flavors. We ordered the veg tahli with 4 curries and they were all excellent. It came with rice, rialti and several breads. We couldn’t stop eating it. We also ordered the shrimp and okra dish in a tamarind sauce that had a lot of shrimp and was also excellent. We also ordered extra bread to sop up the great sauces. It took a bit of time but was sooo good with the sauces!! We had cycled from gray creek and were very hungry but ended our day sooo happy!!

Dosai was cripsy and soft in the middle with no excess oil. Nice. However, the coconut chutney ,tomato chutney and sambar were unfortunately not fresh. It was easily felt when eaten which resulted in a disappointed stomach. So hopefully, you get a fresher food on your plate than us.

BEST TAMIL FOOD I’ve had in BC. 10/10.
Everyone was so welcoming and kind. I have a lot of food sensitives/allergies now, and the chef was so good about asking what I couldn’t eat, and making me a delicious shrimp curry. I was BLOWN AWAY. I’m going to try and replicate it when I get back home. But somehow, I don’t think I’ll get close. I’m already sad that I’d have to drive 8 hours to have this food again. But 100% will be coming back. We had a group of 14, and I heard ZERO complaints. And we are pretty particular about our food. Twas Truly a Treat ♥️.

PS. I loved that the names of the dishes were in Tamil (written phonetically in English). IT MADE ME SO HAPPY
