They noted this place as cash only. Be prepared for a 30 minute wait as they prepare your order fresh. The red beans and rice were perfectly seasoned. Super awesome flavor. The chicken was juicy with a great crust. The menu has lots to choose from, so next time, I’ll dine in. Get there early as they were out of potato salad, mac & cheese, and greens. Skip the fried and I was not a fan of the cornbread. I think the food would taste better if eaten at the restaurant. If you are looking for an authentic atmosphere, good customer service, and good eats, then this place is definitely worth a try.

Got there and had to take my headphones off because the jukebox was playing good music. Only got better from there. The menu was written on a whiteboard. Got the fried fish with greens and a plate of red beans and rice. They told me I had to wait on them to fry the fish, so I knew it was gonna be good and it did not disappoint.

Phenomenal homemade food. The fried chicken was moist and the breading was so flavorful. It was fried after we ordered. The red beans and rice were outstanding.
The young lady who took our order was so friendly and has a great smile. I think she mentioned it was her family’s resteraunt. She explained the whole menu to us. This was a great start to our trip after landing in New Orleans.

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

The place might look rough on the outside, but you don’t know what is waiting inside!!!

Great food!

I had red beans and rice with smothered turkey wings, corn bread and potato salad.

So

Potato salad was simply made. Not too much mayonnaise not too much relish, just the right amount of ingredients to make a refreshing potato salad.

Corn bread was good, had a nice bottom crust and fluffy.

Red beans and rice with smothered turkey was one of the best I’ve ever had. The best I had was my mom’s but this was very close to mom’s cooking.

The only thing that I wasn’t happy about was the temperature in the dining room. Maybe the A/C broke down but it was warm in there.

Besides that, I highly recommend this place!

You were in New Orleans for Thanksgiving and googled this restaurant. They have very high reviews, but the place looks pretty old. Don’t let the outside looks for you. Fantastic service and great food inside! Highly recommend.!

When we landed in New Orleans, my wife said we needed to get something to eat. So before heading downtown, we decided to look for some special locations in Kenner. We definitely found one. Hurst’s is a family owned restaurant that started with humble beginnings. Back in 1939, it began as a chicken shack. Today the family offers chicken and seafood. The whole family was helping out. We had the fried chicken with greens and cornbread. What a great job with the whole meal. Highly recommend checking them out. Being a small family restaurant with a long history and great food makes this a special find for us. Next time we go back to New Orleans, we will be going back. Check them out and decide for yourself.

The food here was great! I had the bbq ribs and they fell off the bone. The sauce was great. Their collard greens are amazing!!! The portion was great for the price and the staff was really friendly! The service was great too. They are cash only, that’s not an issue, just a heads up. Would definitely recommend.

First place I went to leaving the airport. Rental car employee recommended this restaurant to me. Staff was super sweet to me, the food was so delicious. Customers spoke to staff as if they’re frequent visitors and family. Music was fun and a good vibe. I had the recommended turkey legs, green beans, corn bread and a Diet Coke. Portions were abundant and I couldn’t eat it all.
