Tough review. I wanted to give it 5 ⭐️ because the service was very good. The atmosphere was clean. There was good actual Lobster tails and chilled claws. The Canadian Whelk was interesting and neat to have on the buffet. The soup was good and hot. The fruit was fresh. The shrimp was fresh. The peanut butter cooked was new to me and quite good. Really set up to be a great review but…
But, the Sushi chef was rude and upset if you don’t take the dried out pieces of sushi at the front. “You cannot choose your sushi!!!” They simply make too much and let it sit for hours and waste it. The sashimi had a slimy film and I couldn’t eat it. And the fried soft shell crab was a full mouth of ammonia. Really unpleasant.

I don’t know if it was the time we went or what, but everything there legit looked like it had been sitting for a while… the seafood to the sushi to the desserts, EVERYTHING was stale. I felt anxious circling the buffet each time hoping for fresh food. Fruits were at least fresh though.

This is your typical Chinese buffet. They have all the same stuff that you’d find at other buffets around the country. They do have a couple things I’ve never seen on a buffet though like the whelks. Overall the food wasn’t bad and this place is on par with other Chinese buffets.

A week before our trip from Las Vegas, I called to confirm the restaurant’s hours of operation. Unfortunately, the staff member I spoke with was curt and hung up on me, which was an unpleasant start. Despite this, our group of six was eager to try the restaurant, known for its lobster offerings, during our visit to Portland, Maine.
Upon arriving at the location near Planet Fitness, we entered and were not greeted. I approached the counter, and a staff member confirmed they could accommodate our group. We were seated promptly, and our server was attentive, quickly taking our drink orders. The restaurant’s decor was visually appealing, and I took photos to capture the ambiance.
However, our excitement for the lobster, prominently advertised on their website, was met with disappointment. The lobster bar was empty, stocked instead with other options. Assuming they were restocking, we chose other dishes but kept checking for lobster. When it was replenished, the portions were small, serving only three to four people, which was insufficient for our group. This left my party underwhelmed, and their comments reflected their frustration. They restocked every ten or so minutes based on feedback.
My personal experience was far worse. After eating two small plates, I felt ill and had to rush to the restroom multiple times, sweating profusely and spending more time there than enjoying the meal. It was clear the food disagreed with me, severely impacting my experience. My group, already disappointed by the limited lobster offers, decided to leave after my fourth restroom visit.
The only redeeming factor was our server’s attentiveness. She checked on us frequently, ensuring our drinks were refilled, which was crucial given my condition. Without her, I could have been severely dehydrated.
This experience was deeply disappointing and overshadowed our evening. After researching other reviews, it seems this location consistently operates this way. I typically approach reviews with forgiveness, but this visit was unacceptable. Unless management prioritizes significant changes, we will not return. I give this experience one star, solely for the server’s efforts.

Lovely restaurant. If you don’t like seafood or cold buffet food, don’t go here. The non seafood offerings were random Asian dishes that don’t pair well together. I don’t like seafood. My husband does, but didn’t enjoy himself, the seafood was also cold. Maybe it was an off day. Their website boasted over 200 buffet items. That includes sauces. For the price per person, it was not a good value to us.

Went for lunch. Much of the food was hardly warm. One of the stations was completely down. Not sure how much food we missed on that. They didn’t even have real chinese hot mustard. Just packets of some brand of mustard which was aweful. I think they could do better

I was halfway through my dinner and decided to give this place a four star but it changed to a five star due to Tina’s awesome customer service. She chatted with us and made sure we had a great experience. This was our first time here and had a great time. We travel around and google view a lot of places but the customer service was spot on at this location all because of Tina. She actively cares about her customers which is rare to see in any restaurant. This place is a upgraded version of a chinese restaurant with seafood and sushi. They have lobster which is unusual to see at any buffet restaurant. They have lobster every 10 minutes. They have amercian, chinese, seafood and even pizza, they have a large selection of food. They accept debit/credit and cash. They have a few vending machine games and a cotton candy machine. They seem to be wheelchair friendly because they have tons of seating and tons of space to move around. The establishment was clean and organized, including the bathroom. It’s a big parking lot, a lot of room. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I feel like they should higher their prices not lower them. They had very beautiful chandeliers all over the building, very fancy looking and beautiful to look at. The waiter could have been more engaged but Tina made up for it with her excellent customer service. Mostly all the food was fresh and they kept everything very clean. I have nothing to complain about, and nothing to really nit pick. As you can see from my past reviews to other places, I always have something to nit pick, I just don’t have anything this time. Well, maybe salt should be on the table but the waiter brought us some, but realistically I have nothing negative to say.
Overall, 5 stars! <3

I saw some good reviews on UMI Buffet at other locations. When I found out that there was a UMI Buffet near where I was staying in south Portland, Maine, I decided to go for it.
Lobster was good. Servers were keeping food fresh while there were not a lot of customers during the hour I was there. I could really appreciate their efforts. But for $26 per person, the food selection was quite limited. I have to say that this experience was below my expectations.

My significant other and I came in about 7 PM on a Thursday. Greeted by the host quickly sat at a table she kindly took our drink order. It wasn’t busy in my opinion roughly 7 tables total. The buffet dishes were mostly empty or visually dry looking (sushi). Desserts were almost completely empty other than one brown pudding item that was not visually appeasing. I took the last three pieces of orange chicken, a couple green beans, spring roll, a small piece of pot roast.. the food was COLD, dry, spring rolls were mush inside. The server came over and asked if something was wrong. We said yes the food was cold. She proceeded To bring over a woman To ask what was wrong. Must of been a language barrier. She apologized offered to take 10% off our meal I asked just to remove my meal from the bill as I had one bite, and all my food stole in the plate right in front of me. We got up to leave to pay for my significant others meal and our drinks. They had to call the manager to review camera footage would not just remove my meal. They’re arguing on the phone with the manager.
We weren’t in the buffet more than eight minutes. Terrible experience, Food was not appetizing, The trays were completely empty very disappointing still have to pay for your meals we were totally Dissatisfied The restaurant still had two hours to go until close. I wouldn’t recommend. I saw other reviews were great. My experience was not.
