This place was . Every bite hit the spot. We got the Firecracker Smashburger and it was an instant 10/10. The hot honey in it took it to a whole new level. We also tried the wagyu brisket which came with mashed potatoes and a corn muffin, and my friend couldn’t stop talking about it. The Pastrami Bacon Melt was super satisfying too. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything here. Everything is delicious and halal! The service was great as well. Highly recommend!

What a menu & the goods were better than the description! Rare! Outstanding discovery for our first of many future visits! Spinach Salad, with a citrus but not too sweet dressing, fruit, top sirloin, volume and hearty! New favorite place! We took a table in the bar(loud); next time dining room).

Update:
Yet another hike on Saturday 11/22/25 around 12 noon. The leader of my hiking group wasn’t sure what brunch spot to go to so I suggested JP’s. I told her about the deep fried pancake and she immediately said yes. We had a group of 6 and 4 of us got the friend pancake. Our waitress was cool, I wish I could remember her name. I do remember her mentioning her daughter birthday was that same day. Everyone loved the food and thanked me for the recommendation. Oh, and I got a picture of the fried pancake this time

I originally drafted this review but forgot to post it. I visited JP’s for the first time on October 26, 2024, and I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed this spot before. It’s definitely a hidden gem that everyone should check out.
The food was pretty good overall, but the fried pancake oh my gosh, 10/10! (I forgot to get a picture)
We came after a hike, and while it was somewhat busy, we didn’t have to wait to be seated. However, I got the feeling that if we had arrived after 11 a.m. the place would have been packed. By the time we were finishing up, the restaurant was definitely filling up, which tells me it’s a popular spot.
I highly recommend checking it out, and I’d definitely go back!

A great spot for families with fair prices and decent food. Here’s what we tried:
– Brisket: 8/10 – Pretty moist and flavorful.
– Quarter Chicken: 7/10 – A bit too much BBQ sauce, but the corn muffin was delicious.
– Mac and Cheese: 8/10 – The kids really enjoyed it.
– Chicken Strips: 7/10 – The kids thought it was just okay.

this place is sooooo good and it’s unique to find an american style restaurant that is 100% halal. no pork served either. there are so many options and everything we’ve tried has been consistently good! highly recommend for weekend breakfast/brunch because it’s not too crowded and service is fast!
servers are very friendly and accommodating, and go out of their way to make sure we feel comfortable with our newborn. this is a go to spot for both breakfast and dinner with our family!

Great breakfast place. Get the Breakfast Special. A great deal! High quality ingredients. – 2 eggs anyway you like, one pancake or one slice of French toast with whipped butter and warm maple syrup, pick your meat 2 thick cut bacon strips or 3 sausage links for under $10.
Service was friendly and attentive. Tables are spread far enough that you are not sitting on top of each other.
In terms of Downtown Castro Valley, JP’s is a great family restaurant with tasty comfort food at reasonable prices. You won’t be hungry after finishing your meal.
