I sat down at the bar and there was about six people at the rapper route bar that probably seats 30. There were another two or three tables with people at them, but the place is mostly empty. Took 20 minutes just for someone to come ask what I wanted to drink and bring me a menu. When I asked for a draft beer, the bartender didn’t know what I was talking about and clearly didn’t speak English very well. He finally was able to let me know that they did not have any draft beer available because the taps were out of service. OK, I asked for a bottle of beer. which he quickly grabbed for me. Then I asked for a chilled glass for my beer. Again, had no idea what I was talking about. He had to go get a manager to figure out what I was asking for. The manager didn’t know what I was talking about either. Once he figured out what I wanted, he informed they didn’t have any chilled glasses. Not off to a great start, but OK. Took another 15 minutes. I got here an hour and a half before the doors opened for the show so I could sit back and relax for a while. Now I’m wondering if I’m going to get my food in time.
I got the steak nachos, which were excellent, but took 30 minutes to make in a restaurant that was mostly empty. If you choose to eat here, the nachos were excellent. A couple at the bar next to me got the taco platter, and that looked excellent too. They said it was really good.
All in all, it was a mediocre experience, but the food was excellent. I was really disappointed they didn’t have any draft beer. The service was atrocious. In the hour and 15 minutes or so that I was there, I think I only spoke to my bartender 3 times. Once to order my food and a drink, once to order another drink, silverware, and napkins, and once to get my check. In his defense he was a young guy and I kind of got the feeling this was his first real job. He seemed a little overwhelmed, but he was hustling and had a smile on his face the whole time. I was disappointed to see that there were between three and five other people who work there pretty much standing around doing nothing. Every once in a while, they would make a drink or bring out some food, but they were mostly just standing around.
Edit: after a horrible experience, the very kind and helpful manager resolved all of our concerns. She is the only thing keeping that restaurant alive.
My group of 4 saw a concert nearby and walked over for late night snacks and drinks. Drinks took a while to come, and when they did my drink (skinny margarita) was missing and the waitress asked me again what I ordered. When she returned I got something that was definitely not a skinny margarita, it had some kind of fruit syrup in it, and WAY too much of it. This drink was pure syrup. Two other people at my table also got margaritas and they also had the same problem of too much syrup, none of us could finish our drinks. I have NEVER done this to an alcoholic drink…. I will say the food (steak tacos and chicken empanadas) were good, however our waitress didn’t give us utensils, plates to share our food, or napkins. She came and gave us 2 napkins (for a party of 4) when our food was gone. Music is also WAY too loud even for the dance atmosphere at night. I come to the nearly concert venue occasionally but will never return here. Poor service and very poor drinks unfortunately.
The server was very nice, but there seemed to be a communication disconnect, as it took a few times to understand what we were asking for. None the less I did feel like he cared and was making a genuine effort.
We ordered two flights of margaritas and regretted it with the first sip. There were five supposed flavors, but I couldn’t tell you what flavor they were; they all tasted the same, they were just different colors. They definitely didn’t have much if any tequila in them; they tasted like melted popsicle, but with the acidic burn you get from drinking Sunny D.
We ordered our food, which was actually reasonably priced, even inexpensive, but then waited over an hour to get the wrong the food. The food that was correct wasn’t good, as it was bland and barely warm. No drink refills, no follow up, nothing until they cleared our empty glasses and partially eaten food. Then we waited another fifteen plus minutes for the check. None of us felt great afterwards.
The decor was interesting in a good way and the bathrooms were clean, but it was humid and overly warm for being indoors.
If given the chance, we would never go back.
In the famous words of Mr. President this DJ SHOULD GET FIRED. It took the waiter to have cumbia and not the one we asked for. We hosted a birthday party here because we figure it was a good atmosphere with a good vibe. Unfortunately the DJ made this day not a very pleasant one. Kudos to the server Angelica who made it possible for us to dance cumbia
