The food was OK, but not healthy, and certainly not a good deal for the price. Mostly potatoes and bread to fill you up inexpensively. I liked the old stuff on the walls for decor.

Been a little over 10 years since the last visit here. Our server, Kim was kind and had an upbeat, happy, and comedic attitude. She knows how to treat people and make them feel welcomed. They also had great food. My tenderloin sandwich was huge…took me a whole to eat it. Will be coming back in the future for sure.

I’m giving Steamboat Gardens 5 stars hands down. We tried The Barge and a Sloppy Joel. The Barge was huge, had great flavor and was fried to perfection. The Sloppy Joel was absolutely delicious, just the right amount of sweetness. We will definitely be back to try some of their great weekly specials.
Such a cool little diner / dive bar vibe!

Very overpriced for what you get. The tenderloins were big, but lacked flavor. Fries do not come with your sandwiches and they were not great. We had heard great things about the onion rings, they were ok. Atmosphere was fun and the waitress was amazing!

AMAZING food! My husband and I stopped in for dinner at Steamboat Gardens for dinner. The food was amazing, I had The Anchor sandwich and my husband had the Pound in a Pound. The food came out quickly and hot! The fries are the best! The cod was cooked perfectly and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Took a slice of pie home with me! Highly recommended this place, and the atmosphere isn’t loud!

Ok, so I lived in Waterloo for the first 19 years of my life and never tried Steamboat until tonight after returning to town over 30 years later. I got a hankering for a pork tenderloin and this was the only option, but I had heard good things. I will hand it to them that I ordered over the phone and it was ready when I arrived 20 mins later, but that and the friendly gentlemen who took my $26 (?!) payment for a pork tenderloin sandwich, fries and onion rings was very nice. Starting with the rings, they were fried well, but almost devoid of flavor, apart from the bland grease they were cooked in. No sweetness whatsoever and the oil was just industrial-tasting. The tenderloin was pretty big, but the meat was overdone and rubbery and the breading was still a little battery inside. Tasteless, like the rings. Fries were ok but lacking the same dimension as the other food. Switch out your fryer oil for higher quality, Steamboat. Maybe some salt and use sweeter onions?

Really neat place. The atmosphere. is really like the way American restaurants use to be. I feel really comfortable and their food selection is great. The waitresses are really fun and friendly and they pay great to detail. And the food is really , really good , highly recommend.

Seems like a fun place, a bit nostalgic, but past that, not a great experience. The booth seats had zero cushion left. There were some food mishaps which I understand being a busy friday night. I ordered the tugboat and tots. I ate half the sandwich and maybe 5 tots. I rarely ever throw away half a meal. It was not good.

Not as good this time (this was our 2nd visit). I had the tenderloin, it tasted good but 1/4 of it was only the breaded part, it was hollow, no tenderloin. My husband had a sloppy Joe and chili with cornbread. He said the sloppy Joe bun was a good size but small scoop of meat, the chili did not taste right, the cornbread was deep fried instead of baked and was heavy with oil on the bottom half-3/4.

Fried tenderloin and fries special was a deal. However, maybe the oil needed to be changed because it tasted funny/ not good.
Old school atmosphere with townie customers.
