I went in absolutely famished, late afternoon, after a heavy hike. Never been in before. The place itself is what you want from a bbq joint: lighthearted signage in a warm, rustic interior. The man behind the counter was none of those things.
I asked a few questions that seemed to annoy him, one of which was how many came in a half vs full rack of ribs. Six and twelve, he told me, and, without knowing the price of a full rack, veg, and sides, I ordered a full. $60.66 he said right before I tapped. “Oh well, this was an intentional splurge,” I told myself.
Took a seat, checked in on my tired legs, and waited.
When I got home, the hot meal hit the spot by nature of its existence, but not to any degree of standard. While the meat did fall off the bone, it did so dryly and without much flavor. The steamed vegetables crunched as if almost raw, with no warmth to them at all. The sweet potato fries were the lone oasis of quality.
Normally, this would be a lesson-learned-never-go-back kind of experience – I never leave reviews – but when I finished the rack the next day, I counted the bones. Ten. I don’t know if the guy was having an off day or if I did something to offend him, but for what I paid, this was unacceptable.
I hope it was just an off day, as it seems like a decent, local joint. A man came in while I waited, and the guy behind the counter was friendly enough to him, saying he hadn’t seen him since around Thanksgiving. Maybe I did something to offend him after all ♂️
The grilled chicken was a good portion and the BBQ sauce was mmmm delicious. The beef could have been slightly larger for the price but it was good too. The issue we had was the fries were overly fried where a lot of them were hard as a rock, the chili was super sour and acidic like they put too much lemon in it that we took a few bites and tossed it. The baked beans tasted fine but they had a mixture of beans like kidney beans and a few others which was odd. If it hadn’t been for the over cooked fries, and chili I would give this place a 5 star.
