We have ordered steak, chicken, shrimp hibachi, FRIED California roll, dumplings, crab rangoons, hibachi noodles (my kids are picky missing out lol but a great thing to have for them) sweet potato roll, dynamite roll, miso soup, Thai iced tea…EVERYTHING is so good! I am thankful for the more affordable prices too. I’m so happy to recommend them and I see they are getting so much business because they truly deserve it!!
My dish as they placed it in front of me,
House Special Chow Mei Fun, and boy did I ever, go and try it, I’m positive you won’t be disappointed! Thank you Koi and Helene for the beautiful birthday lunch!
In the case of Koi Sushi & Grill, I would have never discovered it had it not been for a Doordash (side hustle) request a few months ago.
Located in the plaza mall where Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, McDonald’s and Carabba’s are the most visble and frequented spots, Koi Sushi & Grill is not visible at all unless you drive along the inside perimeter of the fairly sized open lot with another array of retail establishments that are attached as a strip mall.
This Japanese gem is located in the farthest hidden corner of the strip mall.
I had the privilege of being the only customer to dine in for a mid-afternoon lunch, and got to meet and connect with the young owners, Ming and Julie.
We have a natural connection of all being New York City transplants, and the warm welcome was well received. While they were both from NYC, they actually met in Tampa.
Ming is trained Sushi Chef who got his big break in New York’s most popular Chinatown district.
Julie has been a host and server for many years in the Tampa Bay area, with her start in Flushing, NY.
It’s been 7 months since they took over KOI Sushi & Grill.
I took my time to review the extensive list of menu options, and decided to try for my very first time Wonton Soup – an item I have overlooked too often, as it is a common staple of Asian cuisine.
The Wonton Soup was absolutely divine!!
I then opted for the Lunch Special, Teryaki Chicken with Vegetable, absolutely flavorful, perfectly balanced and aesthetically pleasing dining experience.
They made a space for frequent customers where Julie takes Polaroid-style shots of them, and showcases them on a wall, sort of like a Wall of Fame concept for loyal customers.
I became an instant fan at the moment of entry with a warm welcome from Julie. I cannot stress how important it is to make an impact at the moment you enter a dining establishment.
The atmosphere is quite inviting with decor that immerses you into the Asian culture.
While in conversation with Julie regarding the difference between Japanese and Chinese food, I learned that both she and Ming are Chinese, so I had an even greater appreciation for how they’ve been able to fuse their influence into the dining experience.
I had a most incredible time meeting these new owners who are truly excited to serve the greater Charlotte County community.
I absolutely recommend KOI Sushi & Grill to anyone who happens to visit the Port Charlotte area for an excellent dining experience!
