Holy shrimp, Foodie Fam! The Catch Seafood Bar in Albany, GA is reeling in the deliciousness! We can’t wait to come back for our next FoodieLyfe Tour. First of all, those lemon-pepper shrimp? They’re like little flavor bombs exploding in your mouth! And the roasted Brussels sprouts? Okay, I know Brussels sprouts can be controversial, but trust me, these are life-changing. So crispy, so flavorful, I could eat a whole plate by myself! (And I almost did. Oops. ) The atmosphere is also super chill and inviting, perfect for a casual night out or a special occasion. They also have a private event space available for rental. So, if you’re looking for a seafood spot that will have you hooked, The Catch is the place to be. Just be prepared to fight for your shrimp. #FoodieLyfeTours #TheCatchSeafoodBar #AlbanyGA #Seafood #TastetheGoodLyfe #LemonPepperShrimp #BrusselsSproutsForLife
Calamari and fried tomatoes appetizers. 10/10 the batter was extremely delicious. The calamari was $14 and the green tomatoes were $11 which is not bad. Maybe they both could have been a couple dollars less. My guest say the old-fashioned drink was strong and made correctly.
The grouper and snapper blackened both 10/10. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well at $35 and $32 a plate with twosides. For quality fish fillet off the bone I’m not mad at that price.
The sides 10/10. Hush puppies crispy. Cheese grits have great flavor and texture. Coleslaw was crunchy cold and delicious. Sweet potato soufflé was delicious and unique, but pushed like a dessert which I had no complaints, lol it was great. Honey brussels sprouts were delicious also and cooked perfectly. The salad was simple-good fresh cold, lettuce with visible cucumbers, onions and tomatoes. That citrus vinaigrette was one of the best dressings I have ever tasted. I asked for extra to go. Thanks, Ila.
The blueberry cake was beautiful, but was it a wild factor. For as good as it looked, I couldn’t taste any blueberry and if I was eating it with my eyes closed, I wouldn’t know what kind of cake it was. It’s too much icing and whipped cream substance and not enough cake for me. at $14, it could easily be more like an eight dollar slice because splitting that with my partner didn’t feel the value at that price.
Even with the cake not being a wow for me, I didn’t see a need to drop a star. I was surprisingly still a bit hungry when I left which was odd because with tip we spent close to $155 easily for two people. The bill can go up fast with alcohol, desserts and appetizers. That corner to the left when you first walk in (converted patio) needs a little more light. This place food tastes five star to me and I would love to come back and try other things also. I recommend and would come back to this place.
Calamari was decent but I didn’t care for the bacon flavored sauce.
Shrimp and grits were flavorful.
Stuffed grouper: Best seasoned asparagus ever! Grouper was cooked well. Hush puppies had a great flavor but dry. Could use some sauce with it.
I would recommend this restaurant.
When I arrived, the place was packed. I was told there’d be a 20–30 minute wait, which surprised me for Albany, GA. The host explained it was half-off oyster night, so I figured I’d hit the jackpot — oysters and crab claws? Perfect. Unfortunately, the excitement faded a bit from there.
They didn’t offer chargrilled oysters, only baked with parmesan or raw. I went with a dozen baked oysters and an appetizer of crab claws.
The crab claws came out first. They were small to medium in size and tasted fine overall — nothing bad, just smaller than I expected for the price.
Then the oysters arrived, and they were very small, smaller than my thumbnail, with no seasoning other than the cheese. Not impressive. I ordered another dozen hoping the first batch was a fluke, but the second dozen was even smaller.
On the positive side, the staff was very friendly, and service was great. But the oyster size was easily the smallest I’ve ever been served at a restaurant. This was my first time in the area and my only visit, but based on the oysters alone, I wouldn’t return.
The brussels were nicely charred and well flavored.
I don’t typically even like hush puppies, but these were light and fluffy, fried but not greasy really well done.
For the shrimp and grits, the grit cake was flavored nicely and the shrimp were perfectly cooked which can be hard for a kitchen to do correctly. Unfortunately, the gravy was super salty, not horrible enough to return the dish but right on the border.
I spoke with both Nicki and the chef. Apparently this is a known issue with one of the line cooks. The chef said if I come back I should ask for him to make the dish. I appreciate the sentiment, but would suggest the better solution is to manage the real issue in the kitchen and if nothing else implement quality control on the dishes coming out of the kitchen.
Another bigger issue, I had a gift card & I’d expected to be able to leave my tip using the card, unless the tip is added before the check is closed. I was lucky that I had some cash, but I always have concerns when an organization isn’t making sure that their employees are top priority & taken care of.
