Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

Hello,
I am writing to report an extremely unprofessional and unacceptable experience with an online order placed at your location today.
The order was scheduled to be ready at 2/08/26 at 10:46 pm.I had someone pick it up for me while I was at work. When he arrived, staff attempted to give him milkshakes that were not part of the order and insisted it was correct. He ultimately received the order without the shakes, but the order itself was incorrect.
I called the store at approximately 11:15 pm and was told that nothing could be done because the store was “closing soon.” I explained that the person picking up the order would return to the store. When he did, the burgers were remade; however, the situation escalated further.
During this time, a drive-through employee yelled at me over FaceTime, repeatedly insisting the order was correct, despite missing fries and incorrect sizes that had been dumped loosely into the bag. The employee continued yelling through the drive-through window. When the person picking up the order went inside, the employee made a deeply inappropriate comment, stating he was “just trying to get fries because he’s a bum.” The lady lady said her name is Lori. She had short blonde looking hair. She was working the drive through around 11:40ish 2/8/26.
This behavior was disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. No customer — or anyone assisting them — should be spoken to or treated this way. I am not seeking free food; I am requesting accountability and appropriate action to address this conduct.
I would appreciate follow-up regarding how this situation will be handled.
Thank you for your time
(They remade the steak burgers incorrectly the second time. The double had no mayo, no second piece of cheese, and cold. The single burger had onions on it and my co-worker is allergic to them and no mayo. They ended up giving another fry and it was cold and stale) I attached a picture of the remade order incorrect again:

I usually enjoy coming here to eat but wow how terrible the service was this time around like wow wow wow, I came through the drive thru and ordered a simple #9 and #4, when I got to the window they couldn’t find my order, they ended up finding it but wow how terrible they put together put together the food I mean unacceptable whole crew needs to get reviewed or fired cause wow. They forgot my tomatoes that I asked for and barely put any of the extra toppings I requested. I am absolutely disgusted with this place never will I come back to this location

Ordering is done via kiosks. Your number and name is bellowed over a loud speaker to come retrieve your food. You clean up after yourself. However, the kiosk still prompts you to tip even though there is little to no human interaction here. The only real interaction I had was when I went back up to retrieve a missing item from my order. Mistakes happen and the lady was nice, but that was it.
You are required to scan a receipt code to dispense your drink, which other comparable fast food places don’t require.
The restaurant was very dirty. Water dripping on one table, seats cover with food, floor had dirt and debris. The photos don’t pick it up. I actually said to one of the people in our party that if this is how the front of the house looks, I don’t know how sanitary the back of the house is. I get restaurants can get dirty with high traffic, but there weren’t many people here.
The food was chain quality, which is the only real positive thing about our experience.
They take credit, cash and Bitcoin.

I never give 5 stars but today’s trip earned every one! I haven’t had steak ‘n shake in years because of a few bad experiences but today my daughter took me for lunch while on a road trip. The fries were amazing even though we forgot to ask for salt for them and my burger was hot, fresh and delicious! The young man that took our order was so nice and polite and very well groomed! I will definitely make a return trip!

Probably one of the dirtiest, fast food restaurants that I’ve been in. I mean, literally, there is hair on a table with dirty napkins and not just on one table, but multiple tables… Looking in the back kitchen while placing my own order. Since there’s nobody to take one at all, I’ve never seen a worse mess ever gloves. French fries, old burgers, buns littered the walkway. I mean, as a corporation, I would be kind of embarrassed.

This was hands-down one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at any restaurant — and all I ordered was a SHAKE. My order was #180. I watched in disbelief as they called out 181, 182, 183… all the way up to 190, and I was still sitting there empty-handed. After 45 painful minutes, I finally walked up to the counter, only to find my shake just sitting abandoned on a back table — completely melted, basically a cup of sweet warm foam.
For $6, I expected at least a basic level of service and common sense, but apparently that was asking too much. What I got wasn’t even worth $1 — it was a sad puddle of what used to be ice cream. The fact that no one noticed or cared the entire time says everything about how little attention they pay to their customers. Absolutely unacceptable and beyond disappointing.

I will never go to a steak and shake again the only good thing about it was their milkshakes because they’re $2.34 but I got a tender meal and my grandpa got a burger with fries. During the order process there were no option to have the fries made without salt which my grandad needed because he can’t have a lot of sodium. Also at the end it asked for a tip for the “managers” and there wasn’t an option to not tip so I tipped 0.01. There were no cashiers or waiters you order at self check out and sit down at a table then wait for your number and name to be called so you can go get it. They call it over the whole restaurant with a microphone and they say “freshly made food” at the end every time. I’m not even sure that it’s fresh because when my meal came out the chicken tenders barely tasted like chicken and my grandads burger was dry and smothered in ketchup. I honestly think this place should go out of business because there’s no real point in saving it the food is mid and the restaurant felt cold. They have a drive thru so it’s basically like a fast food place with no waiters or anyone to help the experience feel more meaning full. I remember when I would come as a little kid and it used to be fun now it just feels like an empty restaurant, which it kinda was there was no one there. Just for 4 tenders 2 small fries 1 fountain drink and 1 milk shake it was 21.59 including my 0.01 tip that’s absolutely crazy and for the food to not even taste good to the point where you don’t finish it. At the end a “waiter” came and took our plates to throw away but really what was even the point of it if she’s just going to walk around and look at tables instead of taking our order at the cash register or bringing us our food.

I usually DoorDash in Lakeland frequently and this location by far is the worse location to pick up orders. They’re pace is too slow along with them seeming to get confused on what orders go to where not to mention how much of their sweet time they take talking in the kitchen rather than multitasking; asking around if any other orders or something needs to be taken care of. Great food but terrible service and wait times. DoorDash is meant to be made and sent out quick, we’re timed on our orders and this can potentially affect my rate and employment along with others if something doesn’t change with them.

Am currently here with my kids for what I was hoping to be a nice Valentine’s Day lunch. Steak ‘n Shake had other plans I guess. One of our milkshakes were wrong (supposed to be chocolate, peanut butter, they gave just regular Reese’s peanut butter) not a big deal I was just going to ask them to fix it. Except not easy when literally EVERYONE who is behind that counter purposely ignores the customers who need help. Then the lady with very short white hair decided to argue with me instead of just giving me the correct shake, making a big deal out of nothing. Then our food finally comes out and I realize they forgot the cheese and chili on my fries not a big deal just go ask for some right? Nope, ignore once again. Like if you don’t want to be in customer service then go find another job seriously. This place needs to rethink its employees.
