We regularly order from Sarpino’s and usually have great experiences at other locations. Unfortunately, this location stood out for all the wrong reasons.
For context – We placed a late-night order (around midnight) for a sub and a pasta and went to pick it up in person. I gave the order number at the counter, and the employee handed me two boxes. After driving about 20 minutes home in snowy conditions, I realized the sub was missing. I double-checked my receipt and payment to confirm that I had, in fact, paid for it. I called the store politely to explain that the sub was missing and asked if I could receive a refund for that item. The person on the phone was rude and said I could come back to pick up the sub. I explained that the mistake was understandable, but I live 20 minutes away and it was not safe or reasonable to drive back in snowy weather. Even after acknowledging that the store had made the mistake, the employee continued offering discounts (first 15%, then 25%) instead of issuing a refund and spoke in a rude and arrogant manner.
When I directly asked whether he was refusing to refund an item the store failed to provide, he became angry, said he would issue the refund, and abruptly hung up the phone. This was one of the worst customer service interactions I’ve experienced at a restaurant. Mistakes happen. Poor attitude, lack of accountability, and hanging up on a customer do not.
