Stopped in at Poncho’s in Rancho San Diego last night and ordered the garlic shrimp dinner with rice and beans. It also came with fresh avocado and lettuce, and everything on the plate was seasoned beautifully.
The shrimp had great flavor — you could really taste the garlic without it being overpowering. The rice and beans were fresh and comforting, and the portion size was generous. Everything tasted homemade and well balanced.
What really stood out to me was that the chef came out to my table to ask how I liked my meal. I told him it was delicious, and he actually showed me that he had taken a picture of the plate before it went out because he was proud of how it looked. I thought that was such a thoughtful touch. You could tell he genuinely cared about what he was serving.
I also ordered a Mexican Coke to go with it (highly recommend with this meal), and it paired perfectly.
Overall, great flavor, solid portions, and personal service that made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be back.

Great, casual restaurant that goes above the norm with their dishes! Very friendly and fast service. The restaurant is clean and tables are plentiful. We’ve been eating here every time we come down and somehow it just gets better and better. There are daily specials and outdoor seating also. They keep the current sports on the televisions. Just love how nice and accommodating the employees and chefs are and of course, the food is top notch. I asked for extra cheese on my huevos rancheros as pictured.

they gave me the wrong order. I ordered a California burrito and they gave me an asada burrito instead. They said that I had ordered the asada burrito, but I never ever get this burrito. I always get a California burrito. They really have a problem getting their refund she eventually gave me my money back but gave me a hard eye down. The food was bad. i am never coming here again.

Everyone was very nice and the cooks Pokemon car is fantastic. Get the rolled tacos! The strawberry lemonade is the best. The chicken tacos were excellent. Great portions. Loved our food and visit.

So you know when you go to a restaurant and they make you feel like you belong? These guys know what they are doing!! I’ve been to Mexican restaurants all over the US and Mexico and believe you me! These guys are legit!! We went with a shrimp Quesadilla and a carni Assada burrito and they were both fantastic! As we were enjoy our meal the owner brought us over a billia Taco to sample and my oh my that’s what I’m getting next time!! Hands down some of the nicest people around and the best service around and the best tacos and the best food !! All was fantastic!!

Ok, these were the best Carne Asada Fries I’ve ever had, EVER!
The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was out quickly… I added chicken to my Carne Asada Fries and it made it even better! The portions are large and the food itself is flavorful and goes together very well. We will be visiting again soon!

Great location taco shop with lots of options, including huge burritos for two. I had the popular San Diego Burrito and it was enough for a hungry person or two people! We also had 2 orders of their rolled tacos and my family thought they were the best they have had. Salsas and carrots are a must have too!

Nice taco shop lots of good options, including humongous burritos for two.
Excellent salsas.
The main thing though is make sure to get your pickled carrots they forget to add them sometimes even though you bought them.
The pickled onions & habaneros by the salsas are excellent and spicy.
The combination plates are easily two meals, the portions are magnificent.
If you like Mexican food, you will enjoy Poncho’s.
