La Poblana redid their dining area! It looks great and provides a cozy, colorful atmosphere. I’m surprised that more people don’t dine in here. It is a lot nicer than Los Arcos and wayyy less crowded.
Food:
The salsa isn’t my favorite; mostly tomatillo and I think that makes it a little too slimy and lime flavored. I’d prefer a little more tomato puree, cilantro, and onion or garlic.
Other than that. I think the food is really delicious.
The downside here is that the portions don’t compete with Los Arcos, right now. As this is Poblana’s biggest competitor, I think they are wanting to lure more people down 37th with the nicer venue; I hope costs go down too or afford a little larger portion. We got two entrees and we think they could have added more rice and beans.
Overall: if you want Mexican but don’t want to be in a ridiculously crowded room like Los Arcos, give La Poblana a try. I can’t speak to their alcohol but they have a nice bar and I presume would prepare nice drinks (?).

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Rochester and the most authentic. The food is great, the atmosphere is great and the staff has always been friendly. This is the place I go to the most when I’m in Rochester. The chips come warm. The salsa that comes with the chips is very different from other places, but I really like. Since this is authentic don’t expect lots of sauce on the food.
Update 2020. When they finally opened up after covid lockdown we were so excited. Made special trip (45 min drive). They had brand me menus. Prices had gone way up. Smaller bowel of chips. Never asked if we wanted more (we usually didn’t take more). Too expensive now so probably won’t be back.

IMHO, this restaurant has the finest Mexican food In the Rochester area. Not only is the food delightful, the staff genuinely appreciates your presence! Interviewing the owner, I learned his formula: Your visit – our pleasure, the quality – our obligation, and your satisfaction – our success. In Spanish: Su visita – nuestro placer, la calidad – nuestra obligación, su satisfacción – nuestro éxito. The food is always freshly cooked, comfortably spicy for Minnesota palates, the décor is bright and festive and you always leave knowing that they are honored by your presence.

I am a tamale super fan and they had terrific tamales and also a surprisingly good cheese enchilada. The chips were thick and crunchy. It’s my second time here and I can’t wait to come back.

The food here is phenomenal- probably the best Mexican in town. I’ve had pretty much all of the restaurants. Their tacos, rice, and beans are absolutely delish! My only complaint is that it is very expensive. The price prevents me from eating here sometimes because I can get it cheaper at other places. But once in a while I will splurge for this place. Wish the prices would come down a little bit!

Legit authentic food! Could tell the tortillas were made by hand! Good option if you want authentic Mexican food rather than Americanized.
The staff were super friendly and ran outside after us when they thought we had left our debit card (it was actually someone who had done the drive through).

Friendly and quiet inside, nice bright colors! The food was great! We had the Chile relleno and taco platters. We left stuffed with a bit of leftovers. We have plans to come more often.

Been in Rochester for about half a year and this was one of the two best meals I’ve had since I moved here. Highly recommend for the friendly service and delicious food.

Typical Mexican restaurant with some twists on the menu. We tried the Huarache Chicken Platter and the Quesadilla Chicken Platters and both were good, but not great. Good chips and salsa. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was good.
