Now the long story: While stuck in horrible standstill traffic thanks to interstate closures and re-routing, my 10 year old son and I were starving. So, we opened the Subway app and selected a store that appeared (on the map) to be on our way. Not sure if that was a glitch or a massive app error – but it was faaaaaar from it. After submitting our order, putting the address into GPS, and then driving literally 25 minutes out of the way (each way), I tried to just let the clerk at the store know about the app address/map issue so she could notify management. “Tried” being the key word here. Instantly bristling and “offended”, saying the issue wasn’t her fault – the clerk Sarah then admitted that although this location is in a gas station with MULTIPLE stacked cases of water (4 of which were right behind us) – they didn’t carry the bottle of water purchased through the app and I would have to drive 45 min back for a refund on a different day. Well,.. after driving almost an hour out of the way for cold subs and then being told my kiddo couldn’t get the drink paid for (or ANY other drink option,.. and yes I asked about substitutions), I started to get pretty irritated. While I 100% admit to dropping a single expletive in frustration, Sarah the clerk then took that opportunity to accuse me of yelling at her (I wasn’t – yet) and told me to “calm down” – right before THROWING our subs at us in front of my son and stomping off like a child with a tantrum. At the end of the day, yes I lost my temper a bit after having subs thrown at us, being screamed at, and then talked down to – all in front of my son. I own that and am not proud of it. However, there was zero reason for things to have ever gotten that far. A single OUNCE of customer service or civility from the clerk at this store (instead of an instant HORRIBLE snotty attitude and throwing food at customers) would have ended with us just picking up our food and going home.
A customer form has been turned into corporate and a voicemail left for management about the situation. I’m an adult. Say what you want about me or to me. I can handle it. In front of my child though, I won’t tolerate somebody physically THROWING food and then losing their mind after denying a 10 year old the paid-for drink that goes with his meal, IN A GAS STATION FULL OF BOTTLED WATER right behind the pickup station. Subway in general has been going downhill for a while,.. but this experience truly took the cake.
I get that it’s new years eve, but if you’re this disinterested, you need to just stay home
