Our first time here. Stuffed mushroom appetizer was delicious. Mushroom bisque soup was tasty. Seafood trio consisted of lots of potatoes and red peppers, only 1 scallop, 2 shrimp, and a small square of salmon. It was hoping for more seafood for the price.
The salmon in grape leaves was good but lacked flavor. We had the bread pudding for dessert, which was free for our anniversary celebration. It was not a moist cake like a typical bread pudding, seemed more of dry sweet bread/biscuit with a glaze. The old farm house charm was nice. Staff were pleasant and met all our needs. But sadly, we went for the food and the dishes we had were definitely not worth the price. I don’t think we will be going back.

Bryan took good care of us. We don’t do fine dining, so we depended on Bryan’s recommendations. Three people shared two appetizers and two entrees. The food was very good and we ate until we were full, would love to return again one day.

My wife and I had never been to Otto’s before. We had heard about it, but didn’t know much about it aside from seeing the sign.

We Google searched some local restaurants for our date night, and Otto’s popped up. So we decided to give it a try.

It’s based out of an old farm house and is actually pretty big. The service was great and the food was delicious. I had duck and my wife had scallops.

If you’re looking for a restaurant with great ambiance and food, definitely check out Otto’s!

Abbie made our night! I’ve been enjoying happy hour in the bar at Otto’s on and off over the past 25 years and it never fails to please. The food, atmosphere and service are always consistently outstanding. Over 20 years ago I began a tradition of celebrating my dad‘s December birthday at Otto’s, his favorite Madison restaurant. Even after his passing, my family and close friends would gather to honor and raise a toast to him. This past week, our server, Abbie, went above and beyond and made our celebration extra special. Abbie is one of the best servers I have encountered anywhere in a long time. Great food and drinks, classy, comfortable atmosphere and excellent service – Otto’s has it all. A true gem in Madison!

My husband and I came to Otto’s for a date night.

Otto’s is located in an old house. Therefore, the layout of the restaurant inside is quite unique. Along with the lighting and decor, it gives the restaurant a cozy and warm feel to it.

Nicole was our server. After telling her it was our first time here, she was quite helpful and answered all of our questions.

(First I’d like to apologize- I did not use flash for my pictures. I didn’t want to be THAT person. I also forgot to take a picture of the Chef’s Tasting Menu, so I don’t recall the actual names of the plates we had)

I tried their NA apple mule, which was quite delicious.

For an appetizer we started off with the Otto’s sample platter. Which included bruschetta, stuffed mushrooms and prosciutto wrapped shrimp.
Everything was very good.

We ended up ordering off of the Chef’s tasting Menu that was available.

So for our first course, we both had the bacon wrapped chestnuts.
These were quite yummy.

Second course, I ordered the veal, mashed potatoes and asparagus.

The sauce for this meal, pulled everything together beautifully. It was incredible.

My husband went with the seafood platter. I couldn’t tell you what all was in it. I remember sea bass, mussels, shrimp maybe? It was amazing.

For the first course, we shared the espresso crème brûlée. Yes you heard that right. ESPRESSO crème brûlée. It. was. amazing.
We also had the cherry macaroons. Which were unlike anything I’ve ever had. I still think of them.

The environment was cozy and intimate. Our server was amazing. The food, you can tell is carefully crafted, and arrives HOT to the table.

What more could you ask for?

If you need a date night location, check this place out!

My recent visit to Otto’s Restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we walked in, the warm, inviting atmosphere set the stage for what turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.

The spinach artichoke pasta with shrimp deserves special mention — it was absolutely phenomenal. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce was rich and flavorful without being heavy, and the shrimp were tender and seasoned to perfection. It struck that perfect balance of comfort food and fine dining elegance.

Our server/bartender, Brian, elevated the experience even further. He took our entire table’s order completely by memory — not a single note, and not a single mistake! That alone was impressive, but he went above and beyond throughout the night with impeccable timing, genuine warmth, and deep knowledge of the menu.

And then there were the drinks — wow. I ordered a Manhattan, and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and crafted with real skill. Brian clearly knows his way around the bar.

If you’re in Madison and looking for an evening of exceptional food, top-tier service, and craft cocktails done right, Otto’s should be at the top of your list. I’ll absolutely be back!

I hadn’t been to this restaurant in many years so it was a treat to return. The ambiance is quite lovely in this old farmhouse. The service was pretty good but we lost our waitress for quite some time. I was with my very elderly family member, I felt the waitress could have been a little more patient with her however the hostess and other staff were very pleasant and accommodating. My scallops were delicious! Salad was boring and lacked flavor or creativity. Overall good experience!

Restaurants that are situated in an old house are always a treat to enjoy, and Otto’s is no exception. The restaurant has a very quaint, cozy feel to it, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. A lot of outdoor seating is available around the property, and there is also plenty of seating inside the house. The food is hearty and filling – I had the seafood trio, which was absolutely scrumptious and filled me up. You can tell that the food is prepared from scratch – everything has a genuine, authentic flavor to it. Finally, our waitress was incredible. Erika was our waitress, and she did a fantastic job making sure my table was attended to, as well as bringing a welcome sense of heart and humor to the table. She even gave me advice for college! If you’re in the Madison area looking for a place to enjoy genuine, friendly service and delicious food, look no further than Otto’s!

We could not be more disappointed with our experience at Otto’s. We had a reservation but still waited to be seated because there was no one at the host stand. We went for a birthday celebration, but all we got was a cold “happy birthday” when we walked in before we were led to our very tiny table in the corner of the room. The food was the worst part of the night. The seafood trio had only one scallop, one small piece of overcooked salmon, and two very salty shrimps (the worst fifty dollars I have ever spent). Everything was either very salty or very dry. I can’t believe they label this restaurant as a “fine dining” restaurant… there was nothing fine about this place. I wish I have a time machine so that I could go back to yesterday and celebrate this special day somewhere else

Update:

On a recent visit, we felt invisible to staff. Not only did staff not serve us as to be expected of a restaurant in this price range, they casually chatted amongst themselves as if we were not even there. Maybe because my partner and I were speaking Spanish? We decided to pay for our drinks, leave, and go spend $300 on dinner for two people somewhere else.

Previous review:

Otto’s was an experience worth sharing. Great for special occasions. But life is short, so why not create an excuse to spoil yourself at Otto’s. Excellent drinks, seafood, and ribeye. Attentive and accommodating service. Highly recommended.
