I tend to avoid most Italian restaurants. I’m just so tired of soggy pasta and badly done Italian food, but when I came across Osteria I knew we had to try it. We had some fun in Stellenbosch last night so drove over the mountain a little earlier and stopped in for lunch. I have to say that the menu is a little daunting. You just want to try EVERYTHING!!! We decided on a couple of starters and a 2 pizzas, knowing we’ll we wouldn’t finish it all, but with the cunning plan that we were 100% going to come home a little tipsy and be desperate for something to eat. Leftover pizza! The prawn arancino was out first starter and as we were sharing it all I cut it in half. Out tumbled a whole bunch of little shrimp. I was a little put off that they all had their little black poop shoots in and when eaten, still wet and cold. I think if you chopped the prawns up a bit it might all hold together a bit better. The ricotta gnocchi with a truffle sauce were amazing, but could have done with some sort of bread or cracker…. And then it was pizza time. Hands down the best pizzas we’ve had in… Er… Forever! The sourdough bases were crisp and chewy and it was really hard to stick to plan A and take home some leftovers, but we did! I especially loved the Tartufo, roast potatoes?!?!? rocket and a burrata which when cut open just oozed deliciousness everywhere! We were too full for dessert, but have decided it’s well worth the hours drive just to come again to taste a few more dishes on the menu. I can’t wait!!!! A shout out to Zinhle and the rest of the staff who’s service was fabulous.

My Afternoon at Osteria Cheese Bar was a perfect blend of hospitality, scenery, and cuisine. Upon entering, I was greeted by a warm, modern interior and a panoramic view of the Mountains that glimmered through floor‑to‑ceiling windows. Our waitress stood out with her genuine smile, attentive timing, and deep knowledge of the menu; she suggested nice drink pairing that elevated each course and made us feel like valued guests. The food arrived beautifully presented. Every bite was balanced, fresh, and memorable. The combination of service, the breathtaking view, and the exquisite dishes turned a simple lunch into an unforgettable experience I’ll gladly repeat.

I have visited this restaurant twice in before, the 1st first time (in August 2025) was an absolute pleasure. Food and Service were amazing, could not fault at all.
For the second visit though which was last Saturday, we felt like the wheels had fallen off the bus.
Service was nonexistent, I do feel like this was a management issue in terms of organisation as it appeared our waiter was managing all tables in our area.
When the pizza arrived the burrata ball tasted off, I had to send it back. They did rectify this once brought to their attention. My girlfriend’s food arrived 10min before mine did too and when asked where mine was they said, “You know it’s coming on South African Airways” which I didn’t feel was very professional.
Really wish we didn’t have to experience this as this restaurant is fantastic, now I am hesitant to go back.

An awesome Italian experience with different cheeses. Thank goodness we found this place. Real Italian Neapolitan pizzas, mouthwatering pastas and a huge variety of italian dishes, platters, snacks, cheeses, wine etc. Pasta is cut to order so fresher you won’t get. Pizza bases is the real deal. Burrata cheese next level. We were so interested to taste a few dishes so we ordered 3 different pizzas, focacia, burrata with tomato and pesto, pork meatball & fillet pasta and all of it were delicious. Situated outside the busy town with a great view. We were greeted with happy smiles and served professionally. We will with out a doubt be back.

The food was exceptional, the prawn ravioli to be exact was truly divine.
If you haven’t tried limoncello, give it a try. Desserts are off menu but glad I asked because the pistachio cake was truly an experience I won’t forget.
Well done on creating a cosy, intimate vibe that’s also casual but elegant.
A must visit- Frequently!

booked this restaurant to celebrate my wife’s birthday after having a really good experience here previously, which unfortunately made this visit even more disappointing.

From the start, we were seated right by the till where staff were constantly bumping into chairs and moving around us. Shortly after sitting down, we were asked to give up our table for another group who had booked outside but decided they wanted to sit indoors instead. We agreed to move to avoid making things uncomfortable, but after relocating we were largely ignored for the rest of the evening.

Our waiter, Soso, came across as extremely unfriendly and disengaged. He gave one word answers, repeatedly walked away before taking the full table’s order, and even leaned against the wall while speaking to us. Simple requests took far too long, we waited around 15 minutes for two glasses of wine and had to ask more than once.

The food was equally disappointing. The lasagna arrived completely burnt and had to be sent back. While the replacement came out quickly and was acceptable, it raises the question of how the first dish was served at all. Even the replacement was very dry, with barely any white sauce or pasta layers, mostly just meat.

Dessert options were limited to a single choice, mentioned briefly before the waiter walked away without asking if anyone actually wanted dessert. When it came time to pay, a different waiter brought the bill with little interaction or acknowledgement.

Overall, what was meant to be a special birthday dinner turned into a frustrating experience. The service was poor, the food underwhelming, and the atmosphere didn’t help matters. Sadly, I won’t be returning or recommending this restaurant.

The weather was chilly so we sat inside which was very pleasant. The Sophia Loren and Stella something or other were disappointing. All dough with a small filling inside. We left half of it. The red wine, although expensive by the glass was wonderful. However, when we asked for a second glass we were told that due to its popularity they’d sold out! The waitress had an extremely unprofessional and patronising attitude when we queried an incorrect amount charged for our second glass of wine which we shared. Its unlikely we’ll be paying this restaurant another visit any time soon.
