This was one of our best meals in Asheville. We were unable to reserve a table online; but, we arrived early, and the hostess was able to squeeze us in. The food was well-seasoned and delicious. We definitely will return.

We eat at the Bistro several times throughout the year and the food is always very good….until today. We ordered the Beef Bourguignon. To start, this is one of my favourite dishes so when I say I was a little surprised when I saw the plate… It didn’t look like any I had seen before, the flavour was ok but not as bold as I would expect. It was also fairly dry. Im going to post a photo for reference. This is the very 1st time in history I have not liked a dish from the Bistro but this so-called beef bourguignon was 100% NOT worth $54/plate. Perhaps the Bistro management should send their staff to Cafe Monte in Charlotte to learn how to make a proper Beef Bourguignon or at least it would be far more acceptable than what the Bistro is serving and claiming to be beef bourguignon.

A short review from some locals and passholders.

Why is this only four stars? It was really quite chilly in there. To me, a bistro needs to be warm and lovely, and we were quite chilly.

The food is fine. In fact, it can be quite good. A little overpriced, but you’re at the Biltmore, so you’re paying for more than just the food. I do enjoy the fact that they try to source locally, where possible. We have had the bistro food before, on other occasions where it’s highlighted in special Biltmore dinners, but this is the first time we really came in to grab a bite after we did some wine tasting. We were peckish and just wanted a little bite. And we were just so… Cold. I don’t like to keep my jacket on when I’m dining, but it felt like that was something that was necessary. We were also seated near a window, so I closed the blinds so the draft would not come in.

Our server was sweet, he was training, and he was perfectly fine.
We were patient with him! As you should be with a-server-in-training!

The mussels were good. I liked the flavor, although they had a lot of watercress on top. I don’t know why they had that amount of watercress. But I’m suspecting it was to make the dish look larger potentially? Because when I took off the watercress, it did look like quite a smaller dish. But again, the flavor was excellent!
My husband had the soup of the day and bread. Both were very good. The flavored butter that came with the bread was excellent. Again, that’s all we came in for. Because I was cooking shrimp at home for dinner.

Bottom line: let’s crank up the heat in there! Make it a little more comfortable and cozy for your patrons. It could also have been because we were one of the few people in there, and more bodies generate more body heat and heat up the restaurant.

Nice formal dining experience on the historic grounds of the Biltmore estate. They definitely try to hold to a higher bar. The atmosphere is a bit noisy but some may like it that way. Semi open kitchen concept. We were a table of 10 – while we waited a bit too long for food to arrive, it’s understandable for such a large party. Our server was delightful, she did an excellent job coordinating everything down to separate checks. The winner of the show was the steak! and the French onion soup! While other dishes were tasty they didn’t come close to these two. This is in high demand kind of place so best to call ahead and make reservations.

We enjoyed dinner on November 28th it was fantastic!! The food is as good as we have come to expect during our visits to the Biltmore. My husband enjoyed the filet mignon it was a perfect medium rare while I enjoyed the beef bourguignon and it was amazing! Our server was Elena, who has taken care of us before. She gives impeccable service and is the best!! She even remembered our special occasion from a year ago! Elena always makes our visits feel special!!

Outstanding food and service! The savory beignets were delicious, all dipped in savory goat cheese and mushrooms, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The French onion soup had gooey chewy melted cheese on top, total perfection. The grand prize winner was the lamb! The flavors were absolute perfection! Worth every penny. It was my mom’s birthday and they brought out complimentary truffles, very cute. The coconut cream pie hit the spot. I recommend reservations. Our server was awesome. Overall fantastic experience.

Beef Bourguignon was far from rich in flavor or in texture. We dined here a year ago and loved it. We were unimpressed this trip.

My experience at the Bistro was perfect. The atmosphere was incredible, and the service provided by Nathaly was outstanding—her wine pairing recommendation for the scallops was a fantastic match. The food was exceptional and worth every penny, while the drinks were exquisite. Overall, my time there was flawless. Highly recommended!

two stars for our kind server. he was a great server. we were the FIRST customer of the day and the food was a huge disappointment. i had the seafood soup….so may pieces of onion, my mussels and scallops were undercooked and grainy aka not properly cleaned. both my bf’s and moms meal was incredibly below average, they both had ribeyes that were grey in color and incredibly unseasoned. we paid $300 for this meal!!! nothing upsets me more than paying for NASTY expensive food!!!!

This place is as mid as it gets. Beer bourgoni was a glorified pot roast that had no salt and soaked in beef broth. The Filet looks like a ribeye and had zero seasoning. Prices were $10-$15 more than you would except for a mid dinner. If you’re looking for something special this is not the place especially if you know how to cook.

French onion soup – very good!
Filet – mid
Beef Bourgion – mid
Arancini – good
