We wanted some authentic Chinese food and read some good reviews.
When we arrived we thought that we had made a good choice. They even had some Michellin signage. It was during dinner, they were busy but they were able to get us seated fairly quickly.
Their service system was different and that wouldn’t have been a problem if it worked. The person that took our drink order we never saw again also with the waitress that took our food order. Someone else delivered our drinks and the overall service was non existent. We ordered 2 food items one plate was delivered to our table and it took over 10 minutes for us to get the 2nd plate. This is after us asking for it and we also had to ask for the rice to be delivered. Everyone was busy but they literally had no idea about providing service once we we were able to get our items served no one ever stopped to ask if we needed anything else.
The food was okay but after the hassle of getting service it wasn’t enjoyable at all.
They must know how bad they are as they added the tip to the bill. For two people dining.
Their dinner menu (starting at 5pm) is substantially more expensive than lunch, but if you arrive at 4:45 for example, you can take advantage of both menus. They are open every single day of the year!
1. Even though it was close to closing time, there were still many people waiting. We appreciated that, once seated, guests were given plenty of time to enjoy their meal without feeling rushed.
2. The lobster was a little expensive, but very fresh and generous enough for two adults and two kids to enjoy, with enough left over to take home.
3. The staff asked if we wanted to add noodles. While the noodles paired nicely with the lobster, I’d recommend choosing either rice or noodles—not both—since adding noodles costs an extra $20.
4. For two adults and two young kids (ages 5 and 8), our order of lobster, beef soup, one additional dish, rice, and noodles came to about $280 in total.
The ambiance is something I miss these days, bright and classic Chinese design, white linen table cloth with an explosive energy! Bring your family, bring your friends, this is a big event type of restaurant.
For my dinner I selected the following items as I wanted to try something I don’t typically see anymore.
– Tiger Prawn with Glass Noodles (recommendation from David)
– Minced Lamb with XO sauce and mushrooms
The flavors were satiating, iconic and unique. I would love to bring my friends and family here so we could get a proper 8 dishes to share and explore, that really is the only way to taste everything properly! My meal was most excellent, flavors memorable, and has me craving for more.
The staff was phenomenal, with 5 people attending me at all times and making sure that tea was filled, plates were refreshed, and timing of dishes were on track. It was a beautiful orchestra of front and back of house tying together hundreds of different experiences into a symphony of gastronomic delight!
Come by, bring lots of people, and share a fantastic memory!
While waiting in the seating area, one of the guests, a frequent diner, recommended the fried shrimp. It was a very good recommendation.
The 2 of us oredered 5 dishes so we could a little of each and take home the rest. The first dish was the fried shrimp. It had a unique Cajun flavor. It was more like a prawns. Very hot and tasty with a little spice and bite. Itd be perfect with a beer. But the shells were tough and not completely edible. It was excellent, but Bistro Na still has the best fried shrimp in the land. Better than famous Thai Garlic Shrimp dishes of Portland or Vegas (see my other reviews.)
Our 2nd dish was the fried and salty pork chop. Hmm, it’s exactly the same Cajun spice as the fried shrimp. We should’ve ordered the honey garlic pork chop instead. Our mistake.
Next came the clams. I really enjoyed the nice black bean sauce. Not too much black beans iverpowering the sweet clams. Perfect with steamed rice. My other favorite clam dish is from Boston Lobster. Their basil clams dish is also excellent. It’s a tie.
Beef chowfun was the next dish. Also excellent. They use the same noodles used for most pad Thai noodle dishes. The noodles were infused with a nice smokey, charred, grilled wok flavor. The beef was nice and tender. Our other favorite for beef chow fun, with the same smokey flavor is Arcadia Garden Cafe’. My wife judges Chinese restaurants and their chef’s by how good their beef chowfuns are prepared and taste. This easily passed.
Lastly was the beef with Chinese greens. Wow, this simple dish came out super tasty. It exceeded my expectations. Again, it’s the rich tasty sauce that pairs well with good ol’ streamed rice. The beef was tender and the greens were fresh and tasty.
Next time,.with more family/friends, we’ll try the House Special Vietnamese Lobster. The MP was $29per pound and all they had were 3 lbs lobsters. That was too much for the 2 of us. We’ll update our review next time we come back. It’ll be dungeness crab season in a couple weeks. We’ll review the other seafood dishes too next time.
