We ordered the Prime Rib, and all I can say is wow. Extremely juicy and savory. Christy’s Gruyère potatoes au gratin was an incredible addition to our meal.
Thank You Christy’s !!
Strike one: my partner was told to remove his fedora hat—petty, outdated, and unnecessary.
Strike two: I was told there would be no separate checks, only a forced split down the middle. Rigid policy, zero grace.
Strike three: My friend was told she could not taste a white wine ordered by the glass. At this price point, that’s unacceptable.
Then came the moment that eclipsed everything else. We decided to leave. The owner, Chris, told us that we didn’t belong there. We were a diverse group, respectful, longtime patrons, and paying customers. That statement crossed a line from poor service into outright disrespect.
This wasn’t about tradition or standards—it was about exclusion and tone. A restaurant’s legacy collapses the moment its hospitality does.
One star. A deeply disappointing end to a 25-year loyalty.
However, last Friday night was disappointing.
To start the hostess forced us to sit in the bar area on a high top table since we brought 1 extra guest.
Then the service was slow and inconsistent with used plates piled up on the tiny table before being cleared. The area was loud , bright and crowded with people constantly walking back and forth by our table. The main meals were OK, we ordered the prime rib which was average but a bit tough considering the price. However, the sides were terrible, (at $16.00 each) we ordered the Mac and cheese and asparagus. The Mac and cheese was cold floating on milk separated from the cheese , tasted terrible!
And the asparagus were also cold and just 5 small pieces with some white cream drizzle on top, also totally inedible. We had a terrible experience from start to finish and spent $590.00 for the pleasure. Needless to say we will not return any time soon!
I have had much better experiences at casual steakhouses for 1/3 the price.
I’m truly disappointed with my recent visit to Christy’s, a restaurant that calls itself an icon in Coral Gables but delivered one of the poorest dining experiences I’ve had in Miami.
First, the service was unacceptable. I ordered a specific bottle of wine, and they brought a completely different vintage without informing me. When I questioned it, the staff justified it instead of acknowledging the mistake or offering a proper solution. For a place that claims to have a serious wine program, this is inexcusable.
Then came the food. My filet mignon was served almost burned and at the wrong temperature, far from what I requested. Instead of correcting it, they continued to make excuses—blaming it on Thanksgiving Day and the restaurant being busy, as if that justified delivering substandard quality and service.
To make things worse, the restaurant doesn’t even offer a kids menu. For a place that positions itself as a classic, family-friendly Coral Gables institution, this was surprising and inconvenient.
All of this reflects what seems to be a clear issue with poor management. Instead of taking responsibility and ensuring guests receive the level of service Christy’s claims to represent, the staff spent more time offering excuses than solutions.
Overall, nothing about this experience matched the reputation Christy’s tries to project. Wrong wine, overcooked steak, no kids menu, poor service, and even poorer management. I expected a refined, iconic dining experience and instead received the opposite. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this restaurant based on what I experienced.
