Safe Journey
I was looking forward to enjoying some authentic African cuisine and was completely let down by the service, venue and flavors.

1. Upon entering, I waited a few minutes and there was no one at the hostess station so I went to the bathroom. The bathroom floor was soaking with soapy water as if someone had thrown a bucket of mop water on the floor and didn’t mop it up. I was literally sliding all over the bathroom floor trying to prevent a fall.
2. Upon returning to the hostess station, I waited approximately 4 minutes before the waitress came to seat me. The sign should not say “wait to be seated” when it’s going to take that long to be seated.
3. I wanted a Sugar Free Red Bull made into a Shirley Temple and was told that they didn’t have SF Red Bull OR grenadine although they’re advertised as having a “full bar”. I can understand not having SF Red Bull but I can not understand not having grenadine at a “full bar”.
4. I ordered the salmon with with African rub, sweet plantains, collard greens, cabbage and jollof rice with the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. I waited over FORTY minutes for my food where there were less than three guests being serviced. Darcelle did let me know that “my salmon was taking longer than usual” and I was being patient but a 4 oz slice of salmon doesn’t take that long and I know the other sides were likely precooked; minus the plantains.
5. When my food came and I was asked if I needed anything else, I said I didn’t get my appetizer of the bang bang shrimp and Darcelle apologized and said that she didn’t put it in and asked if I still wanted it which I declined. Especially afterwaiting over 40 minutes for my entreee to begin with. I wasn’t trying to be there all night.
6. The salmon was cooked fine but not an ounce of African flair or flavor and was topped with what looked and tasted like store-bought salsa. The collard greens were tender but had so many spines in them, it was obvious they were not prepped properly. The jolloff rice tasted like oil mixed with tomato paste. The plantains tasted like sweet plantains that were cooked before they were ripe or like green plantains they were trying to pass off as sweet plantains. The cabbage was just regular ole cabbage — unremarkable.
7. Upon asking for my bill, Darcelle let me know that the bang bang shrimp is one of her favorites. I thought at that point I would be offered some to go for not only the long and unnecessary wait times but also because she forgot them but nope….nothing. Just my bill.
8. I was given puff puffs “while I waited” and I are one that was dry and unflavored.
9. The parking lot was covered in rocks from their landscaping with old stickers in the door that it looked like someone tried to peel off.

I drove from Kannapolis to try this restaurant and it was overall a disappointment and a waste for $46. I have no clue what these other reviews are saying and I’m assuming they’re not used to eating African food or are getting paid for false positive reviews but I didn’t have a favorable experience. I would not go back to this restaurant and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone for the reasons I listed above.

I ordered some fufu and chicken egusi soup on their website, and I enjoyed it. I came later at night but was still assisted as soon as I walked up to the bar even while they had music and drinks being served. Friendly staff and clean interior. I would say the price for the meal was a little high ($35) but the food was fresh and flavorful so can’t complain.

It was my first time at Lagz, and the experience was okay. We got the grilled croaker with jollof rice & collards and the beef egusi soup & fufu. The egusi was fantastic , and the sweet tea with got along with our dishes was amazing as well and freshly brewed . The croaker and collards were good as well, but the croaker was fried instead of grilled (still delicious nonetheless ). The jollof rice on the other hand was subpar and burnt , I couldn’t stomach it myself.

The next few things are what ultimately led to the 3 star review. The ladies room was a bit unclean and needs some work, it was very uncomfortable to use. The next thing is the waiter, she never had an attitude or anything like that, but I think she needs more work being more helpful, communicative and hand-on with the customers. She never re-filled out teas (we had to ask), she didn’t explain the types of fufu well and we ended up ordering another type of the SAME fufu due to the miscommunication, and she never brought straws for our drinks after bringing out our teas (after stating she would go get them) and started bussing tables instead… and we had to get our own straws. Overall though, we enjoyed ourselves and the vibes were right ✨

P.S. – the wait time was also reasonable & everyone was friendly

The decor was beautiful. The host/waiter was very wonderful. The bar was not open. The restaurant was out of several things we tried to order. The food came out hot and quickly. The food was a decent price. There is a dinner buffet every 1st Sunday of the month. I liked that the wings were thoroughly cooked. We had leftovers to bring home. Everything reheated nicely. The ladies’ room needs some work with the tissue & paper towel equipment.

My boyfriend and I recently visited LAGZ Restaurant, and the food was absolutely delicious. He ordered the fried fish with jollof rice, and it was very tasty and well-seasoned. I had the Ayamase with rice, and it was cooked perfectly — rich, flavorful, and just right.

The service was extremely slow, but it’s important to note that our waiter, Desiree (I believe that was her name), was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive. She was the ONLY server working that day and was also managing all the takeout orders by herself, which we truly appreciated. The owner was very nice as well and even brought our food to the table personally.

Overall, this restaurant has really improved, especially with the quality of the food and hospitality. If you’re looking for authentic Nigerian delicacies, definitely give LAGZ Restaurant a try — you’ll love it! ️✨

Food was ON POINT!! Everything we ordered tasted so good I felt like ordering everything on the menu. The DJ too was awesome! He kept the vibe going all night. First time coming here. From the outside I was a little skeptical about what to expect. But once I arrived inside the host greeted me and took me to my table. The service was great, my server was polite and attentive. The atmosphere was full of chatter , vibrant with a mix of west African and Caribbean music playing. I already knew what I wanted to order so when they took my drink order I gave them my food order . I ordered beef suya and jollof. My meal came out in about 15 mins and was piping hot. I do think for the $$$ they should give more suya and vegetables . I was presented with several pieces of puff puff as an appetizer. My server said it was his 2nd week on the job but he did a great job. This is the spot to goto for the best Nigerian food experience in Charlotte.

Service was poor. I had the oxtail plate which was really good. I also ordered the Spinach Soup which wasn’t soup at all… that threw me off but cool. Boyfriend ordered the red snapper which he stated was good but his seafood okra soup was not. We also ordered wings for an appetizer and was not offered any dipping sauce (a first) but assumed maybe that’s how they do it at African restaurants idk. We were given plastic utensils after our food arrived and given an explanation as to why but later received proper utensils. When the bill arrived was told gratuity was automatically charged due to previous event at the shop and could not be removed (side bar auto gratuity is added for parties of 4 or more stated on the menu). So I advised that a dish be removed from the bill to compensate since gratuity added 31 total dollars (are u crazy). Oh and it was me and my bf and 4yr old son…. she was able to remove it and I said all that to say I would not visit that place again. Hope they improve their business. Good luck to anyone else who visits.

I tried their signature steak, cooked medium-rare, and it was absolutely delicious! Perfectly juicy, tender inside, with a beautifully seared crust.

The steak was served with a side of flavorful brown rice, boiled cabbage, and carrots, along with fresh tomato, cucumber, and onion. The combination was simple yet well-balanced, complementing the steak perfectly.

On Monday evening, the restaurant was fairly quiet, but the food was excellent, and the bartender was incredibly friendly.

A great spot worth visiting!
