Here for the exquisite quality of fish, not for the atmosphere, but there is something kinda fun about having excellent sashimi in a random hallway next to cooler boxes.
Lunch set was great, with a healthy serving of sushi rice and a small, fresh baby greens salad. Yellowtail jalapeño was fresh, buttery and delicious with the yuzu sauce. Sashimi assortment was excellent! Highly recommend.

I got the sushi regular. This spot is great if you’re getting out of NY Penn or MSG and want a low key tasty dinner. The staff are very friendly. I would try the sashimi regular instead of sushi regular in the future but I appreciated the variety in the sushi regular.

I want to say that I love that this place was open before their opening time and they served us super quick. I was impressed with the service and how kind these folks are. The food itself had great representation and looked delicious. I was not super impressed with the flavor of the food. I ordered regular rolls (salmon, yellowtail) and they had something stringy in them that didn’t have good flavor. If I’m looking for great sushi, this place will be lower on my list. But this isn’t at all due to lacking service. I’m just not used to their style of food compared to other sushi places. They have a lot of business coming through so I’m sure my experience with the food was only a one off and I’m willing to go back and try again another day.

I loved Sushi 35 West. It was one of my favorite places and I will definitely revisit with the hope that this was a one-off experience, and not the new norm. However, yesterday, I got their Sushi Premium and spicy scallop roll and was disappointed. I went around 6pm, so perhaps I got the end of the day dregs…but I’d say about 4 out of 10 of the pieces in my Premium were not as fresh or tasty as past visits…the quality and freshness always blew me away on past occasions. For me, Sushi 35 West has always been about a no frills atmosphere and high quality sushi. I’ve been there at least half a dozen times without ever being disappointed. But the quality of the fish, while still superior to most sushi places, has gone down markedly if my visit yesterday is an indicator…the akami, salmon, uni and chutoro were especially disappointing. Not awful, mind you, but not the sort of thing that would make me insist others venture there (which I once had). Overall, it was very good, but not great.

The sashimi was fresh and silky. Good value for the amount of fresh sashimi served. This is a little tucked away “blink and you’ll miss it” kind of place, with the stairs to the entry located next to a tobacconist. Some tables are set out on the stairwell, which is perfectly fine not fancy. I found the service friendly and fast.

Ordered takeout, really good! The fish is super buttery (in a good way) and it tastes very fresh. I will be back to try their lunch sets. Portion looked small at first but the dinner set was very filling and the perfect amount IMO.

Sushi tastes fresh but for $50 a sushi box you do not get full on this food. So pricey!!!

We ordered three lunch specials for takeout—the sushi lunch, sashimi lunch, and a Toro Uni Bowl. Everything was fresh and enjoyable, but the portions were lighter than expected. We actually ended up grabbing a couple of burgers afterward to feel satisfied. So if you’re looking for a filling lunch that will carry you through the afternoon, I’d recommend ordering more than just one special.
That said, ordering via Grubhub was easier. When it indicated ready for pickup, it was indeed ready and much faster than the app estimated.

Though I’ve never actually sat down to eat at Sushi 35, I delivered from here many times — enough to see how much care goes into every single order. The restaurant is tucked away above a smoke shop, but people always found their way up with this look of excitement, like they knew they were about to get something special.
From the counter, I watched the chefs work with a kind of precision and focus that reminded me why sushi is often described as an art form. Every roll, every piece, was handled with real pride. Even as a delivery driver just passing through, I could tell this place meant something to the people who cooked there and to the customers who came back again and again.
One day I hope to actually try the food instead of just carrying it to someone else — and when I do, I’m sure it’ll live up to everything I saw behind the scenes.

Definitely a hidden gem, this place is located up some stairs inside a vape shop and very easy to miss walking by. It’s also largely take out though it does have a few tables for two set up in the space for those that want to eat there. But for no frills sushi, this place is the excellent! Reasonably priced and always very fresh and high quality, it’s definitely one of my go tos in the neighborhood.
