Salt and lime social was delicious!! I frequent the Home Depot on Elgin for doing home renovations. This area was always a place where seemingly nothing was ever going on. I noticed some hustle and bustle going on this time though! A little dog park place in front of Salt & Lime social! Cool looking place crafted from a couple rail cars! You can’t miss it! Bring your dog and your desire for some great tacos! I’ve been twice and love the Brussels sprout tacos and the mushroom taco as well!! Great flavor and a good amount for the price.

Lastly my observations (I once was a COO of a restaurant group of 6 restaurants and my job was to train the entire staff and head leaders). My suggestions would be to have little stands for your number system that is easy to see for your runners. Rather than screaming your numbers out. Secondly I observed a girl being handed off a drink for a customer in which she held it by holding the cup with one thumb inside the mouth of the glass! This is a major health violation and should never be done! I would suggest that all staff go through a basic food service and server class to ensure proper health hygiene to prevent anyone getting sick.

Overall, Great food & friendly service! Love this place and I will for sure stop by and grab some tacos and a beer when ever I am in the area!!! Loved it!!!

My wife and I showed up for dinner, and it was fantastic! Quick service, delicious meals and drinks, friendly staff! My wife had a couple tacos, I had the burger, and we got the salsa. The red and green salsas are so unique and delicious! We’ll definitely be back.

Man…I….I really hate that I am the first review and not a positive one, but I want to be honest here. The food was not particularly good and the atmosphere was giving high school cafeteria. I got two of the Elgin Street Tacos and a side of chips and salsa, for which I was overcharged. The menu says chips and salsa as a taco side is $2.50. So $6 + $2.50 + tax somehow equalled $11.94. I didn’t think about it at the register, but after I realized I was overcharged because a side of chips and salsa on it’s own is $5.

The taco was mediocre. The ground beef didn’t have much flavor on it’s own, there was a plentiful amount, enough to make two tacos out of one order, but just underwhelming. The green apple slaw was so light, you couldn’t taste it. The salsa helped, but not much

The chips and salsa were good, though there was a seasoning on the chips that just wasn’t for me. It tasted like someone cut a lime open next to it, not enough to bring the flavor of the seasoning out, but also somehow enough to just get lime and a vague hint of other things.

I was really excited to learn about this place because I like to take my dogs to the park right next door, so let’s start with that. I’ve been to the park a handful of times since their soft opening, and didn’t even know they were there. I heard about it from a friend, looked it up, saw their soft opening was Dec 22nd. I also had to hunt their FB page for their hours, so really not off to a great marketing start.

It’s completely outdoor seating, and though they have space heaters for our current chilly weather, they didn’t really work to cut the cold even on a mild day (about 50 when I was there). Though the are dog friendly (obviously) if you actually had a bunch of dogs up on their patio, it would be a nightmare with the layout. It’s either cafeteria-style seating, which I get, or patio chairs around the fire pit. Not even any little tables to set food or drink, just patio chairs. With the added space heaters, you have to wiggle around to walk, it would be difficult to navigate multiple dogs.

There wasn’t music or anything else to the atmosphere, so it all just kind of…hit flat. Really disappointed. Hope to see it make some adjustments and thrive!

I wanted so badly to love this place. Unfortunately that was not the case.

I ordered a regular margarita, my friend ordered a regular with “seasonal jalapeño” for a $2 up charge.

FIRST- Seating is open, yet we were not given a number or anything. Two servers came out from the bar actioning off drinks…zero direction. After the fourth attempt and flagging the server down, we were given one, of two, correct drinks. Assuming they just messed up the order, we didn’t say anything. Server comes back out to deliver another drink- gives it to a customer, then five minutes later to pick up said drink from customers table… Ten minutes later, my friend receives the jalapeño marg originally ordered. Which we had to send back due to it tasting even worse than the original ones. The upcharge for “season jalapeño” is just simple syrup without sugar. Or spice. Th home made sweet and sour is the WORST I have ever had. We didn’t even finish our drinks. Another person ordered a strawberry basil skinny marg- no basil, but there were red chili flakes…

Luckily someone who seemed to be in management showed up, so our previously expressed concerns were addressed. She was kind enough to remove the jalapeño marg, but unfortunately it was just too terrible to want to go back.

In the short time we were there, six people ordered and all left immediately after. We too left, and went to three tequilas to lick our wounds.

VERY disappointing. It’s such a great spot! (First picture is “Jalepeno margarita” from S/L, second is strawberry jalepeno from 3 tequilas…)

Not impressed with their flavors, the apple slaw was a bit of a joke and the brussel sprouts were super burnt. Their outdoor sitting area would be a hit if they had more chairs and tables. The only thing I liked was my whiskey margarita, three stars for that!

I was really hopeful as their menu has some interesting flavor combinations on it. Turns out, it was a nice atmosphere and that is about it.

We ordered their chips with all the dips, 3 varieties of taco, a side of fried brussel sprouts, and some cocktails.

The chips and dip came out and there were maybe 5 whole chips on the plate on top of a broken pile of chip bits. The green salsa was sweet, but not in a good way. It tasted like sweet pickle kimchi. The red salsa somehow tasted like carrot or sweet potato, but not salsa. The queso was actually pretty good. The guac was less guac and more avocado spread with a hint of lime. $16 was way overpriced for what was served to us.

The fried brussel sprouts came out burnt to a crisp and had sugar on them for some reason. The 3 tacos all were incredibly dry. The Elgin park was good, but needs some sort of sauce on it to fight the dryness. The brussel sprout taco was just the same burnt, strangely sweet sprouts and some “slaw” on top of it. The slaw was just apple, radish, and maybe some onion slices all tossed together. There was no real flavor or spice to it, not really slaw like. The mushroom taco was just some rubbery over fried mushroom with way too much of the red salsa on it. Somehow even with the stuff swimming in salsa to the point it was pouring out while trying to take a bite, it was still dry.

We ordered a margarita and paloma. The margarita was not too bad, but the paloma didn’t taste like anything. It was like a paloma had been made next to a cup of water and the water was trying to imitate the flavors.

I know this is a new restaurant and I really hope that this is just getting the kinks worked out. It is a great location and fun concept, I will try it again in a few months and hope it is better.

Unusual flavors! Take your expectations from standard flavors and toss them out the window. I don’t love everything on the menu but what I do like- I really like! Great drinks too.

Great casual atmosphere. The dog park next door is a great plus. The food is really good. Just don’t go expecting entrees of roast duck and high line items. The food selection fits the atmosphere well, with great snacks and tacos. Everything I’ve tried, I would get again.

Bring the sunscreen if you choose to enjoy it plentiful outdoor seating.

The bottom line is they are doing this out of 2 old shopping containers. Having cold beer and entertainment would put them over the top. Add in the aforementioned and many I have not the place is great and I will be back…..

I’ll start by saying this could be a really good place but it’s lacking in food quality/quantity. Upon arrival the server helped pretty quickly dropped food and Drinks quickly we paid immediately since he asked us to even before we started eating so I tipped 20% on the tab. He didn’t check back once we started eating until we left to say bye. Nice touch was when he brought the food he brought my dogs water. Service was ok but a check back after food would have been nice. The main issue I have with this concept is the chillesquilles I ordered was a small handful of chips topped with salsa and a small spoonful of guacamole and less than a half teaspoon of cheese to make it appear fancy I guess. This is not remotely worth $10 and the flavor was like sweet salsa. Basically should have called this a side of chips and tiny guacamole not an entree at all nor remotely anything like it should be. It was sad honestly. The birra tacos were were also sweet and nothing special about them tiny 3 tacos for $15 that you could get at a taco truck more authentic and definitely more for the money. We ate our food which was less than filling or really satisfying and were upset that we wasted money on it and left hungry. This place could definitely be a lot better especially food prices and quality. I really wanted to like this place it had a cute patio and dog park but overall I don’t think we would go back or suggest this as a place to eat. $3 mimosas and dog park were the best thing about this place. I don’t ever mind spending $ on places that put some passion into what they do and the food they serve but this was pretty basic. My 16 year old prepares better Mexican style food. There were no other guests there on a Sunday afternoon I guess that should have been a sign.
