I went with Combo #2: two eggs, pancakes, and a choice of meat. The pancakes were excellent—fluffy, golden, and cooked just right. The eggs (ordered over medium) were near perfection, which is no small feat. So many places miss the mark, but not here. Both the bacon and sausage were solid—exactly what you’d want from a hearty breakfast.
My fiancé had the country fried steak combo, which was a standout. The breading on the steak was delicious, and the steak itself was incredibly tender. Again, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the biscuit and gravy? A real treat. The gravy was a tad thick for our taste, but that’s a small note, likely more about our regional preferences than the recipe itself—it still had great flavor.
One of the things we loved most? It was super fun to see a restaurant with true regulars—people who clearly come often and are greeted like family. Even when we left, they told us goodbye, too. That kind of warmth and community is rare and made the whole experience even better.
Despite it being Father’s Day, we had no wait to be seated. It did take about 20 minutes to get our food, but that’s totally understandable on a holiday and well worth it for the quality.
If you love that nostalgic, old-school diner atmosphere, you’ll love Kelly Q’s. Don’t let the drive from Union deter you—it’s a super easy on-and-off from the interstate. Plus, Walton has some fun places to explore while you’re down there.
We’ll absolutely be back—can’t wait to try more of their savory dishes and (we’ve heard!) their famous milkshakes.
The food is just flat-out good. I’ve had the mushroom burger and the fried chicken sandwich, and both were the kind of meals you think about later.
But what really makes the place special is the people. Jackie and Kelly, the owners, are the kind of folks who make you feel welcome the second you walk in. You can tell they care — about the food, the place, and the community. And Michelle is an absolute gem. Friendly, kind, and always makes you feel like you’re more than just another customer.
The menu is diverse and covering all three meals, ice cream desserts and I did notice an apple pie and fresh baked cookies on the counter.
Definitely my go to place for a burger!
Can’t wait to try more of their menu, including specials throughout the week. I’ve heard the meatloaf is very good. Prices are reasonable, $21. for two fabulous burgers and fries.
