9/25 – on a NE bus tour & stayed across the street from. steakhouse. Ventured over to the bar our first night and had such a good time that we came back for supper the next. Many locals were eating here which is always a good sign that the place is special. Everyone in our group of eight enjoyed their meals. They also have a few of their own beers, which I had to try them all & was surprised at their quality & flavor for such a small place. Retired to the bar after supper where the owner joined us for lively conversation. For those who think it’s overpriced, I learned about the quality of the steaks they serve here.

The food was good but we found it overpriced. A 4 oz filet mignon and 4 very small scallops were $36, and my husband’s 10 oz. ribeye wasn’t the melt-in-your-mouth tender we’re used to. It was all flavored well, and we loved the pretzels instead of the usual bread most restaurants give. The lobster stew was delicious with an excellent portion of lobster meat, but I kick myself for not asking the price first (yikes!). The French Fries were absolutely delicious, very fresh, and the blueberry crumble was delish! Oh, and the service was outstanding, I can’t forget to include that. Our server was very attentive and helpful. I would definitely eat there again next time we visit Acadia, but maybe be more conscious of the prices of everything being ordered.

It’s our go to restaurant every June when we come to open the Family house. Food is excellent, staff is like family to us. We eat there several times during our trip. Whole lobsters are great, steaks are cooked perfectly and flavorful. Onion rings are the bomb. Highly recommend! Oh, and the blueberry martini is awesome!

Please do not order a steak here! Ordered a medium and it was burnt to a crisp. Waitress was very nice and got a new steak which was ordered medium rare based on how the previous one was cooked. The outer side was burned and tasted bitter. They’ve no idea how to cook a steak. French onion soup was a joke. Garlic shrimp Alfredo wasn’t too great but the shrimp was good so there’s that. Salmon was decent too so I’d stick to ordering seafood I guess. Do not go by their name and make the mistake of ordering a steak here. Drinks were good. I really wish they’d stop butchering their steaks. I never give negative reviews especially this detailed and long but this one I just had to so they can do something about their cooking methods because the menu looks good

The service was outstanding. Our server was attentive and informative.
The menu selection had nice variety with seafood and steaks. The house brewed beer was top notch. I wish the sold bottles.
I ordered my swordfish medium and part of it was a bit over cooked, however the rest was good. The scampi was very good as well.
The prices were reasonable
Would return.

We saved the best place for last on our visit to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. We got there not long before closing as we had been out hiking all day, but they welcomed us in with with nothing but smiles. Our waiter (his name escapes me- but he was very outgoing and was clearly an avid hiker who had grown up in the area) was absolutely wonderful and was super friendly.
The food itself was also wonderful- it was the best we had in Bar Harbor. We started with an appetizer of fried calamari which was perfectly cooked and tender. Then we tried the lobster mac & cheese and the surf and turf combo with a whole boiled lobster and a NY strip steak (paired with fingerling potatoes and asparagus). Everything was cooked to perfection, but especially that fresh caught lobster. We finished the night off with sharing their fudge brownie sundae, it was absolutely delicious. Everything was a 10/10.
When you are at most establishments past closing, you normally get the feeling that the waitstaff would like for you to leave so they can go home (reasonably so- and we would never try to stay past closing anywhere any longer than necessary)- but the individuals working at Jack Russell’s made us feel as if we were part of their family there, engaging in casual conversation with us about our hiking adventures and hometowns, etc. even after we had finished our meals. It really was a delightful experience all around and our only regret is that we did not get to dine there another day as we had to head for home the next morning. But we will be back again in the future for more hiking and “consequently”- another dinner at Jack Russell’s. Highly recommend you give them a try if you are in the area.

Although we came on a busy night, the waiting time was too long (1.5h). I appreciated that the waitress offered free dessert as a sorry, but it was too late by the time we finished the main dish.
The food is good, but I don’t think it’s better than others in the nearby Ellsworth area. The price is above average.
It was rather cold inside. We also had bad luck with finding parking space (one car parked slantedly and took the last 2 parking spaces).

The food and staff were excellent. We had blackened swordfish and clam chowder soup. Worth the visit for sure!

I’m sorry to give a bad review but with all the great food we had in Main this unfortunately was in the bottom. The positive was the staff was pleasant and nice. The steak I had I would have expected it to be covered in a demi glaze peppercorn sauce but instead was in peppered water and looked like it had been boiled in it. The roasted red potatoes were just whole boiled red potatoes. The wife’s steak was better but had no seasoning. Hopefully, maybe the chef was out and it was just an off-night.
