Social Profile:
Founded in 1928 by Italian immigrant Emil Villa in Oakland, CA, Emil Villa’s Hick’ry Pit became renowned for its delectable barbecue and irresistible pies. Emil’s signature California-style barbecue and delightful desserts became town legends, drawing crowds from near and far. Despite Clorox’s later acquisition aiming for a national chain with 19 stores, the original locations in Livermore, San Leandro, Hayward, and Walnut Creek have remained, still owned by families who share Emil’s love for great food and companionship.
In late 2023, the business was sold to Inocencio Hernandez, who started as a busboy and, 20 years later, purchased the restaurant. Big Announcement: We are moving to the Rockhouse location on Portola Avenue in Livermore.
Barbecue specialists offer familiar breakfast, lunch & dinner eats in a humble grill known for ribs.

The new location and ownership have made huge improvements. Always loved emil villas in multiple cities, but the ribs in livermore are better now than ever. Fresher, more tender, and not oily. Excellent service and spotless restrooms. $85 for enough ribs to feed 6 adults!

I tried both of their chicken and beed Quesadillas, and both of them were quite amazing. Their special country fired chicken entree is also great dish to eat. I will certainly come back for trying more dishes from their menus.

We sat inside and loved the classic diner atmosphere. Very friendly and welcoming service. I appreciated my coffee and water refills. Everything we had was great. I would definitely get the chicken fried steak again. The gravy was homemade and delicious. Easy parking. Clean bathrooms.

I don’t know why this place isn’t rated higher. The atmosphere is cozy & welcoming, the menu is extensive, & the (comfort) food is delectable every time we visit. Definitely try the triple cheese omelette (maybe add sausage) & a waffle (cooked crispy). It will be enough to share with your “other.” The kids menu also has some bangers for the little, or not so little ones!

Disappointing is an understatement. The service was the only thing that lived up to expectations. The food has zero smokey flavor like you would expect from a barbeque place. It was cold, under seasoned and honestly an unpleasant attack on my palate. The price was exceedingly high for something that tasted likr it was opened from a premade package. I have gotten more flavor going to Dickies. The atomosphere feels like 3 children sharing one room with different desires to decorate. Nothing in the world would convince me to return.

First time stopping by on mother’s day too.
Service was good I got the avocado bites and those were amazing.
I got the steak and eggs and my steak was a bit over cooked but still tasty.
Lady got Irish eggs Benedict and my mom got it with crab. Really enjoyed the potatoes. I asked if the oj was fresh she told me yea but that’s deff not fresh hahaha
Overall pretty good will be back to try the BBQ and pie!

Went with family to the early bird dinner. The menu has many food selections and value pricing for the day. A bit hard to wade through six pages, take your time. The owner and staff were very accommodating and the dinner was very good. A much better experience than previous.

Breakfast deal is pretty decent for the price. Food was alright. The gravy seemed to be a bit gelatinous. Eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes,, and French toast were good.. Service was very slow and we found ourselves waiting a short while to be seated, get our order taken, and to get refills. Drink prices are too high @ $3.49, even for coffee. Id say its worth going if you have time to kill but it’s not quite a place to desire to eat at.

Classic diner food and feel. Went for burgers a few days ago, and they were great. This morning, we went for breakfast, and we got the value breakfast(a mix and match that really is a great value), and I got the chicken fried steak and eggs. Enough food for the price that I was able to take half home. Very much plan on becoming a regular.
