The food tasted very good! The sauerkraut glass noodle was very comforting. I prefer the pork dumplings over the leek dumplings, but overall both had thin wrapping which is a plus

Chin’s Kitchen, opened in 1949 in Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood, changed hands a few years ago after decades as a classic Chinese-American spot. Today, it’s known locally for its Dongbei (northeastern Chinese) cuisine. I loved the 牛肉面 (beef noodle soup).

This is the spot I’ve been looking for. The highlight of the night was the orange chicken- something we’ve been searching for, coming from the east coast. The orange chicken had the perfect crisp texture with that light delicious citrus flavor without being overpowering. Coming in a close second was the vegetable stir fried noodle (lo mein). It was absolutely lovely- we asked and the noodles are hand made in house. The bite and chew with a nice light sauce was really something I’ve been craving. We also got the steamed pork and leek dumplings which were a touch on the saltier side. Overall I’m so excited to have found this spot and will be back to try more soon!!! These dishes were the closest we’ve found to East Coast since we’ve moved to Portland

We tried the spring rolls that were very good. The northeastern salad with noodles which we couldn’t eat and a delicious dish with potatoes and eggplant with purple rice. The lychee martini was really good. Overall delicious I want to go back and try a clay pot and the dumplings.

Delicious, fresh, varied menu. They are able to make substitutions. I’ve asked for tofu instead of meat sometimes and they do an excellent job. Sometimes service can be a little slow, but it’s worth it. I’ve looked all over Portland for Chinese food and this is my absolute favorite.

Went on Christmas Day and they were absolutely SLAMMED! Thought twice about waiting, but drove a ways to try it. Me and my family are glad we waited. Once in, we got some great customer service from our waiter.

Ordered our food and it came out in a reasonable time. Orange chicken was the best I’ve had in the Portland area. The sweet and sour chicken was also the best I’ve ever had in the Portland area as well.

All employees worked as quickly and efficiently as they could and it was appreciated with us, at least. Anyone else who was not happy doesn’t understand the restaurant business and can cook their own food at home.

Overall, it was a great, and unforgettable, experience on Christmas day and I can’t wait to go back and try other items on their menu.

I had just finished an escape room nearby and was on the hunt for something satisfying when I stumbled across Chin’s Kitchen. It’s not fancy, and that’s usually fine by me—some of the best meals I’ve ever had came from hole-in-the-wall spots. When I walked in, the staff greeted me warmly, which was a great start. The space definitely has an older vibe and could use a bit of a refresh, but I was hopeful that the food would speak for itself.

The menu was large—maybe too large—and I felt a little overwhelmed, so I asked the waitress (who seemed like the one in charge) to steer me in the right direction. She confidently told me the top three dishes on the menu, and I chose one of them: the shrimp dumplings.

The smell from the kitchen was amazing, so I had high hopes… but when the dish arrived, it looked like a bowl of raw dough. There was no garnish, no color—nothing to bring the plate to life. I took a bite and immediately felt like I was chewing through uncooked bread dough. It was thick, heavy, and lacked any of the delicate texture I was expecting. I actually started peeling off the dough and just eating the shrimp mixture inside, which was quite flavorful. The dipping sauce was also tasty, but overall, it just missed the mark for me.

I started to feel guilty writing this, but I really did give them the opportunity to wow me with their “best.” I saw other plates coming out of the kitchen that looked far more appetizing, so I’d be willing to give Chin’s Kitchen another shot—but I won’t be ordering the dumplings again.

The pork/sauerkraut dumplings were absolutely amazing. Ask the staff about what they reccomend and they will give you absolute bangers. I’m going to try as much different foods as I can to figure out my favorites. I will be returning, often!

Ate there with my Taiwanese wife and her family. It’s decent food, absolutely nothing bad about it. Service was slow. However, if you’re looking for excellent Asian food, then look elsewhere, specifically on 82nd. This place makes everything way too sweet for authentic palates. Once again, nothing was bad or inedible….I would just rate the food as a 3/5, meh.

Just saw someone leave a 1 star review 20 minutes ago. This place is open on Christmas day and is one of the only takeout spots to be doing this that I’m aware of.

The food is good. The wait is obviously long today and there’s tons of people waiting on pickup.

This restaurant is doing a community service at this point. so glad that they’re feeding me good, hot food. But even if it wasn’t good food, I’d leave a 5 star review just on how well they’re handling the 40 different online orders that are currently waiting here with me.

Thank you Chin’s Kitchen. Local heroes.
